Blog Day 455 - 30 June 2021 - Day 6 of Current Rules

End of the financial year and tax time and that is the least of our worries at the moment.

It is getting difficult to keep up with who is doing what to whom in the Australian world of corona virus infections, each state seems to be playing by a different set of rules.  This is how I see the state of play in the states that have current community infections;
  • Victoria - has one new local infection in the last 24 hours who is a known close contact of a known infected person and has not been in the community whilst infectious.  This brings to 34 the total number of active cases in the state of which 17 are ROTs - therefore there are 17 known local infections currently in the state.  In the last 24 hours the state received the results of 30,000 tests and administered 35,000 vaccinations.  There has been no change to the current minimal covid restrictions.
  • NSW - has reported 22 new local infections in the last 24 hours.  Of these five had spent some infectious time in the community and six had been circulating in the community whilst infectious.  NSW currently has 207 active cases in the state of which 35 are ROTs leaving 172 community transmission cases in the state.  NSW received the results of 68,000 tests in the last 24 hours and administered 46,000 vaccination doses.  Greater Sydney etc continues its 14 day lockdown, there has been no extension of the lockdown region or duration as yet.
  • QLD - has reported 3 new local infections in the last 24 hours.  The premier has stated that all three cases are "low risk" and the sources of the infections appear to be known and tracked.  This leaves Qld with 42 virus cases of which 25 are ROTs leaving 17 active local cases.  In the last 24 hours Qld received the results of 18,000 tests and administered 35,000 vaccination doses. SE Qld and Townsville have just entered into a three day lockdown.
  • SA - has reported 5 new community transmissions, apparently all are associated with a fly in - fly out miner from the NT gold mine cluster.  As a result of this SA has 19 active cases of which 14 are ROTs.  Although SA previously went into lockdown over a dodgy pizza box they have not imposed a lockdown in this instance.
  • WA - Has reported one new community transmission in the last 24 hours resulting in them having 4 active local transmission cases.  Perth and the Peel district in WA are one day into a four day lockdown.
  • NT - hasn't reported any new local infections in the last 24 hours however currently has 7 community transmissions currently in isolation.  Alice Springs is currently in a three day lockdown due to the miner who carried the virus to SA stopping over in Alice Springs airport on his way home to SA.
Currently Australia wide there are 321 infected people including 99 ROTs, therefore there are 222 local/community infections in the nation.  Australia wide the number of community infections increased by 32 and is mixed bag of known contacts, people in isolation and people out and about in the community.

I have copied the following from one of the newspapers - it goes to show how stupid people are and given this sort of attitude what chance do we have of controlling this virus;

"An unvaccinated receptionist who contracted Covid-19 after being stationed outside the isolation ward of a Brisbane hospital was visibly sick at work for two days before she flew to Townsville on holiday, potentially seeding an outbreak in both cities".

Three of her close contacts including her younger brother have since become infected and led to the lockdown of 3.8 million people.  Apparently she had "not taken up the offer of vaccination".

I don't know why but the worldwide figures for the last 24 hours look as dodgy as.......... well a very dodgy thing.  I will attach the table and you can make up your own mind, but I think that Brazil reporting 28,000 new infections in the last 24 hours is La La land, likewise with France only reporting 518!

Although the UK daily infection rates continue to rise dramatically they are still proceeding towards something called "Freedom Day".  Apparently Freedom Day is set for 19 July and it is the day when all covid restrictions are removed.  So come hell or highwater or a continued increase in covid infections Freedom Day is going to happen on 19 July.  One almost thinks that they get what they deserve.
