Blog Day 485 - Friday 30 July 2021 - Day 3 of Covid Lockdown V5.3 (Lite)

I am starting to run out of descriptive headers for whatever stage of the virus arrangements we are in.  It was much easier when we were either in lockdown or out of lockdown when the only variance was whether we had a curfew or not.  I still can't believe that we actually had a curfew in Melbourne.

My neighbour in the front house has just got his new little Labrador pup which I have to admit is very cute, and he must really like me as he has peed on my foot twice now (the pup, not the neighbour).

And avoid any jealousy here a friend of mine has recently got a Labradoodle pup which is also very cute and has also peed on my foot (the pup, not the friend also).

How much more horror can we stand, the worst news possible has just been announced, the grand final parade has been cancelled, woe is us!

And in more footy news some bloke named Clarkson is leaving a team called Hawthorn.  Why this is front page news has got me beat.

And on a sporting note I have just read a very interesting and educational article in the Age on why the lady beach volley ball players wear bikinis, including photos.  Very interesting and very educational.

Who would have thought that you would get sporting news in my blog!

And now back to the real world where real problems exist and where people have more to worry about than grand final parades, football coaches and sportsperson's garb.

Australia wide there were 174 locally acquired virus cases reported in the last 24 hours plus 3 more ROTs.  The majority of the locally acquired cases were reported in NSW with 172, which is an improvement on the 240 reported the previous day.

In the same period Victoria reported 3 new locally acquired cases and Qld 1.

Currently NSW has 2,557 active cases, Victoria 200 and Qld 43 for a total of 2,847 active cases, inclusive of 130 ROTs.

NSW is reporting huge numbers of test results with 95,000 results received in the last 24 hours and a whopping 111,000 the day before.  Victoria received the results of 44,000 in the last 24 hours.

Nationally there are 248 people in hospital due to the virus with 62 of them in ICU and 25 on ventilators. Of these 187 are in hospital in NSW, 42 in Qld and 7 in Victoria.

Internationally the Delta variant is cutting a swathe through countries that previously appeared to have the virus under control.  For example the USA after recording daily infections in the low teens is now back up to nearly 70,000 new infections in the last 24 hours.  Likewise France has gone from 4,000 per day up to 28,000 and Turkey has gone from 4,000 to 5,000 per day up to 22,000.

I am guessing that death rates will rise proportionally over the next couple of weeks.

Unfortunately it looks like the UKs experiment with "freedom day" and vaccinations has failed with daily infection rates up from lows of 1,900 to 26,000 and deaths from three a day to 127.

Closer to home the virus is still running rampant in Indonesia with 48,000 new daily infections in the last 24 hours and 1,800 deaths.
