Blog Day 488 - Monday 02 August 2021 - Day 6 Lockdown V5.3 (Lite)

Have you noticed that the supermarkets are selling a lot of meat free meat these days and the packaging and the product placement (in the meat section) is causing some confusion, to me at least.  And as well as that the bottle shops are selling alcohol free alcohol, also in the same area of the shop as the real thing.

Imagine if you got home with your shopping and discovered that you had purchased meat free sausages and alcohol free wine! As they would say in France - Quelle horrour!

I did mention to the young chap in the bottle shop that these products should be sold from a separate room at the back of the supermarket so that there wouldn't be any opportunity for confusion.  The young chap said that he would pass on my suggestion to store management although I think that I detected a distinct lack of interest.

Victoria is travelling along Ok covid wise with only two new cases in the last 24 hours and both had been in quarantine in their infectious period.  Not quite as cheery in NSW with 207 new locally acquired cases reported in the last 24 hours.  Qld has reported 13 new locally acquired cases in the same period and they have extended the lockdown in the SE of the state until at least next Sunday.

Here in Victoria there is some talk of allowing some spectators into the footy this coming weekend, although I suspect that there would be some team supporters who wouldn't be busting a boiler to get along to a game.

NSW received the results of a whopping 117,000 tests in the last 24 hours, Victoria 21,000 and Qld 22,000.

Australia wide there are 318 people in hospital due to the virus of these 59 are in ICU and 26 are on ventilators.  232 of these patients are in hospital in NSW, 66 in Qld and 8 in Victoria.

Nationally there are 3,338 active virus cases, once again NSW has the majority of these with 3,090, Victoria next with 134 and then Qld with 66.

NSW certainly appears to have the job still ahead of them and there appears to be a largish cohort of the population that seem to think that the lockdown rules don't apply to them.

I have had a quick look at the worldwide figures but the reporting of these figures appears to be very inconsistent over the last few days so I haven't looked into them too deeply.  For example I have detailed the figures for the USA for the last three days below:

    01/08    New infections    33,000       Deaths    144
    31/07    New infections    194,000     Deaths    891
    30/07    New infections    78,000       Deaths    321

And a lot of the other countries are showing similar variances.  I will have another look at them later in the week when hopefully their figures have settled down a bit.
