Blog Day 494 - Sunday 08 August 2021 - Day 3 of Covid Lockdown V6.0

The other day I was feeling a bit peckish but being home most lunchtimes I was a little bit bored with my usual lunchtime fare.  So I decided to break into my iron rations set aside during the first lockdown in case of civil unrest and a state of siege.  What did I spy but a can of Spam!

I made Spam sandwiches with sourdough bread, cheese and on one sandwich tomato sauce and hot English mustard and on the other with chutney.  And I must admit they were both delicious.

Next day, still having some Spam left over, I sliced and fried it in my air fryer and made the same sandwiches as the day before.  Now this is going to be hard to believe but the fried Spam was even more delicious than the non fried.  

I am now eyeing off the can of corned mutton, what will that be like in a sandwich I wonder or possibly the canned Croatian Hungarian Goulash.  There is no rush to eat these cause if they actually have a use by date it is some time in 2057.

 Not that I am gloating and I take no satisfaction from the fact that FNQ including Cairns has gone into a 3 day mini lockdown.  My heart goes out to my many readers in that part of the world.  Be of stout heart and good cheer.

Thirteen new cases in Victoria yesterday, all from known clusters, all related to the school outbreak and all moving around the community whilst infectious.  Victoria currently has 100 active cases including 4 ROTs, of these 7 are in hospital with 2 in ICU and 2 on ventilators.

NSW is still battling on with 255 new locally acquired cases reported in the last 24 hours.  NSW currently has 4,395 active local cases with 351 in hospital and of these 58 are in ICU and 24 on ventilators.

NSW has recorded another death due to the virus in addition to 4 yesterday making a total of 28 deaths for this wave of the pandemic.

I am not sure what is happening in the US, they reported 255,000 new daily infections in the last 24 hours compared to 110,000 the day before.  They also reported 1,173 deaths in the same 24 hour period with 535 deaths the day before.  The US seems to report a massively high figure every 7 days (probably a Saturday, but a bit hard to tell with time differences etc), I am wondering if some states only report in once a week or somesuch.  Anyway I am not sure if their "lets get on with life and let the vaccinations control things" policy is working.

The UK daily infection figures are continuing to climb with 32,000 new infections reported in the last 24 hours and 92 deaths.  Although both new infections and deaths are continuing to climb it is without the same dramatic results as the US.

India still appears to have everything under control with around 40,000 to 45,000 new infections reported daily.  This figure has been consistent for some time now.  Although it sounds a lot on a daily basis when you consider that they were reporting close to 500,000 infections per day this is a pretty good result.  Likewise for their current daily death rate of 400 to 500.

Has the Delta variant of the virus not got into India I wonder.
