Blog Day 535 - Saturday 18 Sept 2021 - Day 44 of Covid Lockdown V6.0 Extended
Sacre bleu and quelle horreur, le Froggies are really pissed off with us over the cancelling of the French submarine contract (that will teach em to paint big bullseyes on the front of their subs) and have recalled their ambassadors to both Australia and the US. Does this mean no more camembert for us????
And in a two for one deal we have also managed to piss off the Chinese, how is that for a daily double, both the French and Chinese are extremely unhappy with us. Does this mean that we won't be able to have spring rolls and camembert any more?
Probably not a good time to be trying to get through CDG with an Aussie passport, possibly a blessing that we can't go there anyway.
The next big news item is that an Australian company is about to launch our first all Australian made space rocket tomorrow. Just one teensy weeny little thing, it is only going up to 36,000 feet, I think my Cessna 150 can go higher than that. But credit where credit is due, they have to start somewhere and how silly to think that you would actually send a space ship into space. Good luck and god bless all that sail in her.
And back to earth, the anti lockdowners are planning another big rally in the Melbourne CBD. Some of you may recall the ugly scenes of the battle between the police and ralliers a couple of weeks ago at the most recent rally.
The police are determined to avoid a repeat of the recent rally and have created a ring of steel around the city to prevent anybody who doesn't have legitimate business in the CBD from entering. One of the initiatives to prevent people getting into the city has been to close down all public transport in and out of the CBD from 8.00am to 2.00pm this afternoon.
I say bring back the really, really big cops, a few irritated German shepherds, maybe some dogs as well and the brawler vans, that'll learn em!.
It looks like we have a zoom trivia night on tonight, it will be good to catch up with my fellow triviaites and share a few drinks and some bonhomie.
Back to the reality of life in a covid lockdown.
A childcare centre in Bentleigh East has been declared a tier one exposure site and coincidentally a childcare centre in Cheltenham has also been declared a tier one site from exposure on the same date and time frame as the Bentleigh East exposure. Possibly a staff member moving between both?
Although there is a spread of new infections around metropolitan Melbourne and some regions still 90% to 95% of all infections are in the Northern and Western suburbs of Melbourne. I will leave you to draw your own conclusions as to what that means.
In the last 24 hours Victoria recorded 535 new infections, the majority of which are from unknown sources, we also recorded a further death bringing to 9 deaths in Victoria from this third wave, in the last 24 hours Victoria received the results of nearly 62,000 tests and 87,000 doses of vaccine were administered from all sources, although the state government still only acknowledges the 45,000 vaccine doses administered at the state centres. Still very parochial and mean spirited.
To date 70.3% of eligible Victorians have received their 1st vaccine dose compared to the the national figure of 70.5% and 42.9% have received their 2nd dose compared to the national figure of 45.4%.
In the last 24 hours NSW recorded 1,333 new infections and 6 more deaths, this was from the results of 121,000 tests.
Although the Victorian daily infections are continuing to creep up the NSW daily infections appear to have stabilised although at 1,300 new infections per day that is not ideal.
As at 10/07 this year NSW had reported 54 deaths caused by the virus, this figure is now at 282 deaths meaning that 228 deaths have been reported in NSW as a result of this 3rd wave of the virus.
