Blog Day 550 - Sunday 03 October 2021 - Day 59 of Covid Lockdown V6.0 Extended
Have you ever found out that you have been doing something wrong for a major part of your life? As I recently discovered I have! All of my life I have thought that the motor car marque was Alfa Romero, however recently I was reading a motoring article in a newspaper and the journalist referred to the Alfa Romeo, as in Romeo and Juliet, and I thought what a silly duffer he has spelt the name incorrectly. Well, have I got egg on my face, it turns out that Alfa Romeo is the correct spelling and my Alfa Romero is incorrect, and boy does it hurt to admit that.
Continuing on random matters, sometimes things happen that make you think that maybe there is a god after all. This morning on my walk I came across a 30 something couple all decked out in their chic exercise gear, designer sunglasses, $300 runners, drinking coffee and therefore not wearing masks and guess what the bloke was doing? He was picking up a great steaming dog turd very recently laid by their $3,000 designer mutt. I gave them a cheery wave as I walked past but didn't seem to get a response.
Seeing how Victoria seems to be entering new phase of managing this virus, which in the long run will be dependant on the vaccinations protecting most of the population I have started a second table. This table will record the daily new infections for Australia and Victoria and the daily hospital, UCI and ventilator patients for Australia and Victoria. I have also included the daily death numbers for both nationally and Victoria.
If the experts and the government are correct, the daily infection rates can continue to climb but the hospitalisation and death rates should start to decline as the vaccinations take effect. I think that this is the thinking behind the UK opening up so we will see what happens here.
To date nationally 56% of the eligible population are fully vaccinated and 51.5% in Victoria, nationally 79% have received their first vaccination and 81.5% in Victoria.
Over the last three days Victoria has reported 1,143, 1,488 and 1,220 new infections, the most recent from 71,000 test results received in the last 24 hours. Victoria had 3 virus related deaths in the last 24 hours including a male in his 50's.
