Blog Day 556 - Monday 11 October 2021 - Day 67 of Covid Lockdown V6.0 Extended

I have just completed another Shrine training session on delivering virtual Shrine tours to school groups.  As some of you are aware I have been volunteering at Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance for some years now and a big part of the volunteering is delivering tours of the Shrine to various school groups.

Of course the face to face Shrine tours ground to a shuddering halt nearly two years ago due to the Covid Virus thing.  Since then we have been able to do a few live tours in between lockdowns but this time around it has been a long time between drinks.

During this lockdown the education staff at the Shrine have been offering virtual tours to school groups.  These tours are done on Zoom and use a combination of a Powerpoint presentation  and the Shrine virtual walk through tour accompanied by an exciting and interesting commentary.  

Due to an increasing demand for the virtual tours some of us volunteers have undertaken the training to conduct the virtual tours.  I am now fully trained and ready to roll on some virtual tours, I can detect year 9's all over the state quivering with excitement at the prospect of attending a virtual tour with me in charge.

Now, this is interesting, half a day into the IBAC enquiry into ALP branch stacking and one government minister, of the ALP ilk of course, has resigned, how many more to come?

In a trial run 10,000 fully vaccinated people will be able to attend next month's Melbourne Cup, as usual this has whiff of favouritism or inconsistency about it.  The Melbourne Cup, if held, will be held on Tuesday 2nd of November.  My copy of the Roadmap tells me that we can't have visitors in the home until 5/11.  So 10,000 people can attend a sporting event but everyday Victorians can't have one visitor in their home!

In the last 24 hours Victoria reported 1,612 new virus infections, down from 1,890 the day before.  This figure is from 73,000 test results received in the last 24 hours.  In the last 24 hours 8 people died in Victoria from the effects of the virus and 5 in the 24 hours prior.

Hospital, ICU and ventilator figures continue to increase in Victoria.  Currently there are 677 people in hospital in Victoria due to the virus, of which 133 are in ICU and 94 on ventilators.

Nationally 82.2% of the eligible population over 16 have received their 1st injection and 61.9% their second.  In Victoria the figures are 85.5% and 58.6% respectively.

If I am reading these figures correctly we should be optimistic about reaching our 80% fully vaccinated targets by the due dates.  One would think that if 85% of the population has gone to the bother of getting their first injection they will show up for the second, so we can be confident of reaching at least 85% fully vaccinated in the applicable time frames.

In Victoria we have been assured that there is now sufficient supply of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine for everybody in the state over the age of 12 to be fully vaccinated.  I might go and get a shot of the Pfizer or Moderna, just to be sure to be sure.
