Blog Day 566 Thursday 21 October 2021 - Day 77 of Covid Lockdown V6.0 Extended

After 11 weeks of lockdown (this time around) we are being released from some of the more onerous rules of the lockdown.  As usual there is the usual confusion as to who and what can open, who needs to single jabbed and who needs to be fully vaxxed and who can go where and when.

We are still limited to travel within metropolitan Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsular, can only have 10 visitors to the home in any one day, most general retail still can't open, hospitality can open but with strict occupancy limits, we still have to wear masks etc, etc, etc.

I have just returned from my walk and by the number of people and vehicles around I'm thinkin that some folk are getting a head start on "freedom day".

Of course barber shops can open from 11.59pm tonight but I reckon it will take a week or so to get a seat, given the number of scruffy blokes around and the limits on numbers that the barbers can service at any one time.  Still I thought that this might be an opportune time to post a couple of photos of me with my current covid hairstyle.  The first is with bed hair as seen when first arisen and the second is after my morning beauty routine.  Just make sure that there are no small dogs or children around when you view these photos, they may be scarred for life.

I will post further photos after I get trimmed and prettied up a bit.  (Hmmm selfies aren't very attractive at the best of times).

Not much good news on the numbers front.  After a few day of declining daily infections in Victoria the numbers are trending upwards again with 2,235 new cases reported in the last 24 hours and 12 new deaths.

In Victoria 70.51% of the eligible population is fully vaccinated and 90% has received their first inoculation.  Nationally the figures are 70.8% and 85.8% respectively.  These are great figures and given 90% of the Victorian population has received their 1st jab it is reasonable to think that at least these folk will get their 2nd jab.  This will give the state at least a 90% vaccination rate, and most likely more.

Victorian hospital figures are remaining reasonably even with 779 patients in hospital with covid, 141 of these are in ICU and 96 are on ventilators.  Although at 12 deaths in the last 24 hours these figures are increasing a bit.

Victoria now has the dubious honor of breaking through the 1,000 death mark virus related deaths, 1,005 deaths during the duration of the pandemic to be exact.

Nothing to be proud of there, is there Mr Premier!

I just had a quick look at the UK figures, they look like they might have a bit of a problem there, maybe living with covid isn't working as well as what they would have liked.  Daily new infections are up around the mid to high 40,000s and daily deaths range from 40 to 220 per day.

Tomorrow's blog will come to you from a newly liberated Melbourne, it will be like a Norman Rockwell painting with children playing with hoops in the street, people patting puppies, dad watching on smoking a pipe and mum putting an apple pie out on the window sill to cool in a perfect middle class Melbourne scene, imagine Camberwell in the 1950's.  Crikey, how do I get there!
