Blog Day 571 - Friday 29 October 2021 - Day 08 Of Covid Lockdown V6.0 Lite

A few things happening around this covid world of ours.

Still no haircut!

I haven't made mention yet of the premier's latest quest for power, I must have a look at it sometime and pass on my well researched, balanced and objective opinion.  That'll be a first I hear you all say!

Remember those photos of Mussolini, Il Duce, posed on a balcony in Italy somewhere, dressed in military uniform, hands on hips, jaw thrust out being adored by his loyal citizens.  I reckon our premier has a poster size copy of that photo in his bedroom and he practices the pose in front of the photo but instead of the uniform he is wearing his North Face jacket.

Can you tell the difference????

I just hope that our premier remembers Mussolini's ultimate fate.

A bit of an interruption here, I have just spent a few minutes out playing with my neighbour's 6 month old golden Labrador pup.  Lovely little (little?) dog, very enthusiastic and boisterous with the jumping and the licking but good fun.

Last night and today we have been experiencing what is now referred to as an "extreme weather event" with most of the state experiencing very high winds and heavy rainfall.  The wind is supposed to be easing this afternoon but isn't showing any sign of doing so just yet.  Trees are down across the state and many, many households are without power and could be for up to four days.

It is amazing what we are finding interesting in this lockdown world of ours.  On my walk the other day I came across the auction of the empty Commonwealth Bank branch on Centre Rd in Bentleigh East.  So I stood in the pleasant sunshine with the other retired codgers and took in the theatre that is a property auction.

In the end the property was passed in at $1.9m.  Just guessing but I reckon the reserve was $2.0m and when I walk past today I expect the sold sign to be up.  It will be interesting to see what it ends up being used for.  Sold sign is up!

I see that corona virus rapid testing kits will shortly be available for sale to the general public.  Both Woolworths and Coles and various pharmacies are promoting the sale of the kits although they are not in the shops yet.

The bloke from Chemist Warehouse was on the radio this morning.  He said that they will have the testing kits in store next week and will initially cost approx $25 for a pack of two kits, but will get cheaper as more kits become available.

Of course the big news is that at 6.00pm this evening we have a significant lifting of the various lockdown restrictions.  Retail can open, no travel restrictions within the state, further opening up of hospitality, schools returning, not having to wear masks outdoors, increases in limits on visits to family homes and most importantly further removal of restrictions on the opening of barber shops.

The Victorian figures are bouncing around a bit with 1,656 new infections reported in the last 24 hours, 1,923 the day before and 1,534 the day before that.  The death numbers in Victoria are behaving similarly, with 10 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, 25 the day before and 13 the day before that.

Victoria received the results of 70,000 tests in the last 24 hours.

It looks like we will be able to receive our booster shot (the 3rd shot) 6 months after receiving our 2nd shot.  At this stage it will either be the Pfizer or the Moderna vax,  I will be lining up for mine and I don't care which one it is.

Currently nationally 87.9% of the eligible population have received their 1st injection and 76.2% are fully vaccinated.  In Victoria 91.5% of the eligible population have received their 1st injection and 78.8% their 2nd.  (Pssssst, don't tell anybody but we aren't supposed to receive our relaxed lockdown rules until we reached 80.0% of the eligible population fully vaccinated, but I won't tell anybody if you don't).  We may not have made the 80% target but I reckon we are still doing a pretty good job.
