Blog Day 579 - Saturday 06 November 2021 - Day 8 of Covid Normal

As you would be aware I sometimes comment on current events in this blog.  I do this for two reasons, the first as reminder to me and my readers of what is happening in the outside world and secondly so that in a hundred years historians and social anthropologists will not only get an honest and unbiased view of what is happening corona virus wise but also a snapshot of the world around us.

Of course the big news this week has been the recovery of the little girl in WA who went missing from a tent at a camp site near Carnarvon in WA and was missing for 18 days before being located and returned to her parents.

After searching for 18 days the little girl, four year old Cleo, was found in a house in Carnarvon.  The police broke into the house at 2.00am in the morning and found little Cleo alone in the house, awake and playing with some toys.  One of the police officers asked her name and she said 'my name is Cleo'.  I have heard a recording of this and she has the strongest Australian accent, which is pretty cute.

Since being reunited with her parents she spent a little time in hospital but doesn't seem to be physically injured in any way.  She certainly isn't camera shy and there has been some great photos of her smiling for the cameras.

A male Carnarvon resident aged 36 as been arrested and charged with child stealing amongst other offences.  Now, he seems to be a very strange egg, he has a large collection of dolls with a particular predilection for Bratz dolls which he allegedly likes to take on drives in the country.  He has allegedly created fake social media accounts creating fake families and communications with the fake families on line.  The children in the fake families had names similar to Bratz dolls.  He lived on his own and was as they say "a bit of a loner" with no close family or friends.

(Hmmmm, I had better put my collection of dolls away for a while.  Hang on a minute the kids are arguing and fighting out in the other room, I will be back after I sort that out........I'm back).

Back to the covid front.  The vaccination rate in Victoria has slowed down a bit especially with the first vaccination shots.  As at today 92.1% of  eligible Victorians have received their first vaccination, the day before it was 92.0% and the day before that 91.9%.  I daresay that now we are over 90% it is going to be more and more difficult to get the hard core anti vaxers and can't be bothereds to come forward for their vaccinations.

Second shots are still rolling along but of course these are people, in the main, who have already committed to being vaccinated. In the last three days the figures for Victorians vaccinated with their second vaccination was 83.3%, 82.5% and 81.8%

Through the week I received an email from my doctor's clinic telling me that they are starting to roll out the booster shots (3rd shots).  Anybody who is eligible for the vaccination can receive the booster if it has been 6 months or thereabouts since they received their second shot.  I will be lining up when I qualify.

After a couple of days under 1,000 new daily infections the daily rate in Victoria has crept back up a little.  In the last 24 hours Victoria reported 1,268 new infections and 1,342 the day before. A couple of days ago we got down to the mid to low 900s.

Currently in hospital Victoria has 651 patients with covid, of these 106 are in ICU and 70 on ventilators.  These figures have declined a little from previous days.  In the last 24 hours 7 people died in Victoria with the virus, down from 10 the previous day.

Last night on one of the news services they showed nurses being trained to a patient on a ventilator, it was horrendous, no wonder the patient has to be unconscious.

I always thought that the ventilator was those little prong things they put in your nose, oooooooh no, these are big flexible tubes that go all the way down your throat, no wonder people take ages to recover.

Maybe the vaccine hesitant 10% should be made to watch this report.
