Blog day 6: Sunday 29 March 2020

I feel very sorry for the people who recently took over one of the cafes in Centre Road.  They took possession a couple of months ago and then closed for 2 - 3 weeks for renovations and a new fit out, then they were only open for a couple of weeks and have now closed due to this virus thing.  This café was one of my regular Saturday morning breakfast spots so hopefully they can reopen in due course.

Now this is a serious question, in this time of heightened hygiene requirements how often should one be washing ones doona cover??

I have decided to include a new occasional piece called "What's in the pantry Graeme"? this will include photos if items from my pantry which I think are of interest or possibly amusing.  Today's contribution is:

Tell me what I might make with these ingredients and what might be the missing main ingredient.

Clair, I received an email from the Hotel des Grand Balcones, telling me that they have closed.  That's a bit sad.

Stiff upper lip and all that, pip pip.

  1. Such an easy question not to mention the simple challenge. One should wash ones doona cover everytime a person visits and stays under said doona cover. In your case, maybe you should wash it this time in 2021???? (I crack myself up sometimes). Animals are yet to transfer the disease so goats are fine. As for the ingredients, that is a magnificent meal of lamb shanks looking at me. Add a few vegetables and diced tomatoes and wow, what a meal with a belt. Not only will it tickle the sinuses but it will help you sleep at night. Maybe you might need to wash that doona cover after consuming it though just in case.

    1. I don't rate them at all, although once at a 24hr breakfast place in New Orleans, Katie indulged in bottomless bloody Mary's in plastic cups adorned with a crawfish. They forced her to take a full one to go when we left...
