Dark Times in Bentleigh East
Blog day 1: Tuesday 24 March 2020
Given the troubled times we are living in I have decided to make a record of the trials and tribulations being experienced due to the corona virus pandemic. I might also use this as a platform to vent my spleen, occasionally!
Although it is day 1 of the blog it is the 78th day of the pandemic worldwide.
Currently Victoria has 411 confirmed case of coronavirus with an increase with 64 new cases confirmed on Monday. Australia currently has 1,895 confirmed cases and worldwide there are 377,926 cases and 16,488 deaths.
As an update it would appear that the Olympic games have been cancelled, for this year at least, although the AOC are still fluffing around with this and haven't confirmed anything as yet.
The local supermarket is reasonably well stocked apart from toilet paper and paper towel, you know the usual things that you would panic buy in a crisis. Luckily still plenty of vodka around.
More directly affecting me; the Shrine is closed so no more volunteering for the foreseeable future, my U3A is closed likewise indefinitely, I have stopped going into the CBD for lunch, a seminar by Military History and Heritage Victoria, scheduled for this Saturday has been postponed to some time in October. Although I am not in formal isolation I am not going out disco dancing anytime soon.
It interesting that every 2 bit journalist and columnist in Australia has become an instant expert in all thing virus and pandemic related, offering all sorts of advice and criticism to all and sundry of how this emergency is being handled. And likewise for washed out footballers and WAGS who suddenly seem to be fonts of all knowledge in respect to the virus. And don't get me started on the damage that social media is doing.
