Blog Day 38: Thursday 30 April 2020

Another Thursday when I would usually be donning my Shrine blazer and heading off to do my duty which often translates to doing battle with a bunch of surly year nine students or alternatively having fun with a group of grade five kids.  Its funny how you miss these things.

I complained yesterday of nothing happening in the dark and dangerous streets of Bentleigh East, well what a difference a day makes.  As I headed out on today's walk I noticed a police highway patrol vehicle parked in the nearly empty pub car park with lights flashing parked next to a vehicle with its bonnet raised and two officers discussing the events of the day with an uncomfortable looking miscreant (ULM).  About half an hour later on my return journey the same coppers and cop car were there but now there was a flat bed tow truck there as well, apparently preparing to take away the ULM's motor vehicle.  Said ULM was unloading what appeared to be all of his possessions including bedding, clothing etc from the car and placing them on the ground.  Said ULM wasn't looking very happy about the proceedings and possibly where he was about to proceed to.  How is that for excitement!

On my walk today I stopped at Mrs Miggins Pie Shop for a pie for my lunch.  For a MID (Mention In Dispatches) can you tell me what popular TV show Mrs Miggins Pie Shop appeared in.

The increase in infections in the last 24 hours in Victoria can apparently be traced back to a 'cluster' in a nursing home in Hawthorn.  One of the two deaths in last 24 hours in the Australian figures is a North West coast Tasmanian apparently from the Burnie area.  With 12 deaths Tasmania is now 3rd behind NSW & Vic.  A worrying figure given the size of Tasmania's population compared to NSW & Vic.

The UK death figures have jumped from 21,000 to 26,000 because they are now counting people who died of the virus in nursing homes.  Apparently to date they have only been counting people who died in hospital. This means that the UK has jumped past France and Spain in total number of virus related deaths and they are not far behind Italy.  Not a race you would want to be winning.

Current Virus Day Stats: Day 115

Vic: 1,361 infected (+7 from previous day) - 18 deaths (increase 0)
Aus: 6,753 infected (+9 from previous day) - 91 deaths (increase 2)
Recovered: 5,709
World: 3,190,743

  1. The Premier Peter Gutwein announced this morning that the investigation results are that the Ruby Princess is the most likely cause of the outbreak in Burnie . So I suppose this is the official reason.
Unfortunately there are still idiots that want to stir up more unrest with their own reasons.
