Blog Day 82: Saturday 13 June 2020

On my daily walk I often walk past a new business in the little shopping centre near Tucker Road.  The business is called Rejuven8 and offers cryotherapy and I have wondered "what is that all about"?

When I was walking past the other day there was a van parked out the front and the van man was decanting liquid nitrogen into a very scientific and very cold looking container with liquid nitrogen  vapour spreading across the footpath like a scene out of The Phantom of the Opera.  Apparently cryotherapy is used to treat some sports injuries and arthritis, it involves the patient sitting in a chamber at about -120 to -150 degrees for 3 minutes.  My usual in depth research (Wikipedia) revealed that this treatment does not have the wholehearted support of the legitimate medical community.

I was a little disappointed as I had visions of freezing bodies for unfreezing sometime in the future when a cure has been discovered for whatever ails the particular "stiff".  But not to be, just some dodgy treatment for sprained ankles and the like.  Very disappointing.

Just a reminder that as the virus restrictions are loosened I might be spending a bit more time out and about so if I miss a blog entry for a day or two it doesn't mean that I am lying lifeless on the floor with the rats nibbling my toes it just means that all of a sudden I have some other things to do.  For instance believe that the Shrine volunteers will be receiving some correspondence from the Shrine this week advising us of the plans for the reopening.

The Australian government has formally extended the ban on overseas travel till 17 September although this does not exclude the concept of a "bubble" with a country such as New Zealand.

I see that Brazil has now recorded 42,000 deaths slightly exceeding the UK and slipping into second place on the corona virus table behind the USA.

Have a look at the figures below;

Saudi Arabia; Population 35m;  Corona Infections 120,000; Corona Deaths 900

Canada: Population 38m; Corona infections 98,000; Corona Deaths 8,000

How does than make any sense, Saudi Arabia and Canada have similar size populations, reasonably similar infections rates but look at the differences in the number of deaths 900 compared to 8,000.  As professor Julius Sumner Miller used to say "why is it so"?
