Blog Day 91: Monday 22 June 2020

What the? I can hear you all say, wasn't I supposed to be at work today?  Yes I was supposed to be at work today but last night when I heard the latest virus infection transmission figures I decided to give it a miss.  I didn't like the idea of travelling to the office by public transport or parking in a public car park, catching elevators and working in an office in reasonably close proximity to people for 8 or so hours. The CBD is still one of the virus hot spots so I am going to avoid it for at least this week.  The situation will be reviewed next weekend and hopefully if I decide to go to work the job is still there for a few weeks.

Brazil has topped the table for number of deaths over the last week with 7,270 the USA and India had 4,394 and 4,183 deaths respectively.  Next week's figures will be interesting for Brazil and India to see if they are going to get on top things.  The US is still seeing significant increases in their infection rates but the death rate appears to be decreasing with 4,394 deaths for the week.  The UK and Spain both had around a thousand deaths but Italy and France only two or three hundred.  It is amazing that we are saying that 200 or 300 deaths per week is a good thing.

After a few weeks of no new infections New Zealand reported 9 new cases in the last week, apparently all were returned travelers.  Australia and New Zealand both reported no further deaths.

Although the increase in the number of infections in Victoria has decrease slightly it is concerning that of the 16 new cases 12 of these are by way of community transmissions.  This is the highest daily increase in community transmissions in over two months.  You will also note that there has been a further 5 people admitted to hospital in Victoria in the last 24 hours taking the total in hospital with the virus to 9.  Victoria also has the only ICU cases in the country.  Although when you look at what is happening in other countries in the table above we appear not to have anything to worry about I still wouldn't want to be one of the two people in ICU.

Corona Virus Daily Stats: Day 168

Vic: 1,847 infected (+16 since yesterday) - 19 deaths (increase 0)
Aus: 7,474 infected (+14 since yesterday) - 102 deaths (increase 0) the discrepancy between the increase in the Vic & the Aus figures is caused by a reclassification of some cases.
Aus: 6,896 recovered - current hospital 15 (-1), current ICU 2, current hospital Vic 9 (+5) current ICU Vic 2
World: 9,045,457 infected - 470,698 deaths (increase of 6,699)
