Blog Day 94: Thursday 25 June 2020

Twenty four hours after DD told us that we didn't need assistance from the military, guess what, the military is coming to town, about a thousand of them.  Maybe DD has to forget about his branch stacking and corruption and union problems in the Labor party and start running the state again as he did early in the virus crisis.

The military is going to bolster the security in the quarantine hotels where there has been a number of breaches caused by security staff catching the virus either through ignorance, lack of training or lack of PPE. These security staff have then circulated in the community passing the virus on to people that they have come in contact with.  To date Victoria is the only state to have the virus transmitted from people in hotel quarantine.

The recent family transmissions have come from large family groups celebrating the end of Ramadan.  This has also been the source of some of the infected children attending various schools.  It will be interesting how many of these people get fined.

One of my readers who works for a federal government department and lives in the Peoples Republic of Darebin has been told that he will be working from home until at least the end of July.  As his area is now also designated as a 'hotspot' he is unable to even attend his office on an occasional basis as he had been previously.  

As my bud earphones have carked it I popped down to Harvey Norman to buy a new set.  About five cars in the carpark, nobody in the store and I still couldn't find somebody to serve me.  

Qantas has announced that is sacking 6,000 staff and does not expect to be flying internationally, except for New Zealand, for another 12 months. 

The figures below are concerning.  The majority of the 33 new infections in Victoria are from community testing or unknown community infections.  The national figures show an increase of 33 infections in the last 24 hours, as previously noted 30 of these are in Victoria and the other 3 are in NSW.  The 3 NSW infections are from repatriated overseas travelers now in quarantine.

There has been a further death reported in NSW apparently this is a reclassification of an early death in a nursing home.

Not much else to say here today but to let the figures speak for themselves. 

Anyway I've got to get back to preparing my trivia questions, like DD I have far more important things to deal with than this pesky virus thing.
