Blog Day 97: Sunday 28 June 2020
As I may be returning to work in the CBD this week I decided to buy some facemasks to wear on the train. Twelve dollars for 10 disposable masks or $44 for 50, I bought 10 to start with and see if I need them or not. I was thinking about wearing my patented prototype underpant facemask (a la Captain Edmund Blackadder) but decided that people might point and laugh, particularly if I was wearing my baggy y-fronts. The only good thing about the underpant facemask would be that I wouldn't have to worry about anybody sitting or standing anywhere near me on the train.
DD and his merry band of cronies have done another backflip. Yesterday Dr vD was telling us that 30% of the people leaving hotel quarantine without being tested wasn't a problem and the state couldn't do anything about it anyway. Twenty four hours later DD has changed his mind and decided it is a problem and Victoria will be copying NSW so that anybody who refuses to have a test prior to discharge from the hotel will have to stay isolated for a further 10 days.
The world has reached two milestone figures today, exceeding 10 million infections and reporting over 500,000 deaths. Mexico is rapidly developing into a disaster area, reporting 26,000 deaths with daily increases of between 600 and 1,000 deaths over the last week.
Victoria still has problems with 49 reported new infections in the last 24 hours, the highest daily figure in 3 months. Twenty six of these were discovered in routine testing, 4 from known outbreaks and 19 under investigation.
Corona Virus Daily Stats: Day 174
Vic: 2,028 infected (+49 since yesterday) - 20 deaths (increase 0)
Aus: 7,686 infected (+45 since yesterday) - 104 deaths (increase 0)

World: 10,082,613 infected - 501,308 deaths (increase 4,307)
I'm starting to get concerned that we might be back in lockdown soon. Based on my observations of people's behaviour. We went for a drive today up to Mount Donna Buang - a nice and crisp 3c up the top. However on the drive through Warburton we noted how busy it was - we decided it was too packed to stop and drove back to a small town to purchase lunch in a shop that was observing the rules. However at a bakery which had a sign for 3 people in the shop max at anyone time - a couple just walked in - pushing in front of those waiting safely outside - and the people inside to 5. And then as we drove back to Warburton in bumper to bumper traffic, the footpath was noted to be packed and there was no 1.5m social distancing. I also observed some cafe's were fuller than seemed legal. I'm noticing that many businesses and people just either don't care or don't get it. Clearly with people refusing tests who have come back from overseas and cases of people just going back to work after getting a positive test we need to ask ourselves can we control this? You can't just blame the lefties and the protests. I think as a society there are some serious questions to be asked.
ReplyDeleteAt least you had a nice day out in the country...
DeleteTodays stats are not helping! I'm avoiding public transport for as long as I can. Wilson Parking are doing $10 all day parking (anytime arrival and departure) in a bunch of places in the city - use code FREEDOM - until end of July, if you dont want to catch the train to town :)
ReplyDeleteNot much to worry about on the train, nobody on them, I will post a photo of a peak hour carriage on today's blog.
DeleteSurely that knew about those refusing tests in quarantine before the media told us.. Why did it only get fixed after the media highlighted it?!
ReplyDeleteExcellent question, maybe cause Dr vD didnt think that it was a problem.....
DeleteHow was the train ride in your mask - hope everyone on the train had one on - should make it compulsory
ReplyDeleteHardly anybody wearing masks on the train, my packet of masks remain unopened.
