Blog Day 125 - Monday 27 July 2020

Just back from my walk, the only people I saw not wearing masks were three push bike riders, ironically two of whom were riding on the footpath.  I might have to take some inspiration from the Boulevard Phantom Tack Tosser (BPTT) who seems to have recently made a reappearance.  Apologies to one of my many bike riding readers who recently took a tumble due to the work of the BPTT.  You know that I wouldn't really do anything like that.

Bit hard to find anything positive to talk about at the moment, record high infection figures, old people dying in nursing homes and people proudly flaunting the law and boasting about it.  But, good on the Bunnings staff who calmly and professionally dealt with the obnoxious lady who was giving them a hard time over the wearing of a mask in the store, well done them.

Attended week three of my university course on TGW this morning and I have got another hour of The Lighthorsemen movie to watch before the Shrine volunteer discussion group on Zoom tomorrow. Talk about busy!

Today's figures are, without being alarmist, alarming.  A record number of new infections reported in Victoria in the last 24 hours, 532 out of a national figure of 549.  Six more deaths bringing the Victorian total to 77.  Five out of the six were elderly residents in nursing homes and one was a male in his fifties.

There is something like 600 infections out of the nursing home disaster and yet apparently some staff are still working in multiple facilities.  I have had some experience with nursing homes, professionally not as an inmate, and the proprietors of these facilities are very mercenary.  The places are run on a very tight budget and I could imagine a casual, contract employee with probably very poor English asking for more or better PPE and getting a very blunt response.

The world stats appear to be significantly less today but looking back over the last few weeks it appears that Monday's figures are always less.  Maybe some countries don't report their figures over the weekend or in the catholic countries less people get sick and/or die on a sunday.

Remember: to ask "are you OK"?, to work from home when you can, keep your vodka in the freezer, wash your hands, keep your distance, keep your mask on, sneeze into your elbow (yuk), don't touch your face, press the traffic light button with your foot, eat your vegies, don't ride your bike on the footpath, sanitize often, keep your glasses unfogged, obey the police at roadblocks, don't put your hat on the counter at the bakery (cause the lady will shout at you), don't go to work if you are crook and be kind.
