Blog Day 126 - Tuesday 28 July 2020

Running a bit late today so not much to say.

The Zoom Shrine volunteer catch up today was good with wide ranging and robust discussion around the movie 'The Lighthorsemen", attended by some of the Shrine staff and 20 or so volunteers.  Next week should be interesting as the movie we are discussing is "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence" which I am yet to see.

Hopefully good news with the virus figures today.  Victoria reported 384 new infections for the last 24 hours, well down in the previous 24 hourly figure of 532.  Lets hope that this is the start of a favourable pattern.  Six more deaths reported in Victoria four of whom were as a result of infections caught in nursing homes.

The government has put stronger restrictions on elective surgeries to allow the nursing
staff from the hospitals to be moved to working in aged care facilities.  Some ADF staff have been placed in nursing homes also.

Daily world wide figures aren't showing any consistent pattern of improvement.

Remember: to ask "are you OK"?, to work from home when you can, keep your vodka in the freezer, wash your hands, keep your distance, keep your mask on, sneeze into your elbow (yuk), don't touch your face, press the traffic light button with your foot, eat your vegies, don't ride your bike on the footpath, sanitize often, keep your glasses unfogged, obey the police at roadblocks, don't put your hat on the counter at the bakery (cause the lady will shout at you), don't go to work if you are crook, the lime in your V & T is a good source of vitamin C and be kind.

  1. I think we're on the down slope now - with masks making a difference (Although there's a fair few d'heads making life difficult for the police arguing about masks).
Side note, the aged care situation is a complete disaster, and the more I read about this industry the more I think I'd never want anyone I know to end up there. How is that industry so poorly regulated and so poorly managed?

    1. Although the official figures aren't out for today (29/07) it looks like they may be lower again, if so that is good news. There will be a lot of questions about aged care come out of this.

    2. I know nothing about aged care - are we really just talking about people that need 24hr care/palliative care type situation? Otherwise what's to stop you getting your own nurse to visit, a cleaner, meals delivered etc... Burn through everything you own and all your assets before you end up in a place like I'm hearing about - can't take it with you... Unless you subscribe to some sort of Ancient Egyptian belief system?

    3. What happens if you burn through everything by the time you are 85 and then live to 100, could be embarrassing.
