Blog Day 127 - Wednesday 29 July 2020

Some newspapers were reporting yesterday that some groups of protesters were going to hold rallies at "shrines" on Friday.  Apparently by "shrines" they meant Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance and other memorials in other states.  The articles have disappeared from the Age and Australian web sites but there is still an article in the Herald Sun site.

What I found interesting was that one of the groups involved was a group that is campaigning for the introduction of the red ensign as Australia's national flag instead of our current blue ensign flag, they call themselves 'Muster for the Duster'.  I remember this group turning up at an Anzac day service at the Shrine a couple of years ago.  They were carrying large red ensigns and waving them in the crowd during the service.  After the service some of them were hanging around in the sanctuary and I asked them to keep moving as other people were lining up to enter and they were a bit surly and belligerent about being asked to move.  I got the impression that they may have been from a rural area, probably all related and from a limited gene pool.

Looks like the "Muster for the Duster" people may now be part of a disparate group of nutters involved with the anti mask and the corona virus conspiracy groups - god help us.  Never thought that I would say that.

For the second consecutive day in a row Victoria has experienced a significant drop in the number of new infections.  For the last 24 hours Victoria reported 295 new infections, the lowest figure since 20/07.  Lets hope this is some sort of pattern and the reduction in infections continues.  Unfortunately no such good news on the deaths in the state with a further 9 being reported in the last 24 hours.  Seven of these 9 were as a result of infections from the nursing home outbreaks.

Worldwide figures have bounced back up after a couple of lower days, both in number of new infections and deaths.  I will have a look at some of the country figures tomorrow.

Remember: to ask "are you OK"?, to work from home when you can, keep your vodka in the freezer, wash your hands, keep your distance, keep your mask on, sneeze into your elbow (yuk), don't sneeze with your mask on, don't touch your face, press the traffic light button with your foot, eat your vegies, don't ride your bike on the footpath, sanitize often, keep your glasses unfogged, obey the police at roadblocks, don't put your hat on the counter at the bakery (cause the lady will shout at you), don't go to work if you are crook, the lime in your V & T is a good source of vitamin C and be kind.
