Blog Day 135 - Thursday 06 August 2020

Lets start the day with some good news.  At about 11.00am yesterday I ordered some printer ink from inkstation.com.au (there's a free plug for them), the package of ink arrived on my door step a 10.45 this morning.  So delivered less than 24 hours from ordering.  And not only that although they are not HP brand printer cartridges they were less than a quarter the price.  Will now have to see what the quality is like.

I also ordered a USB hub on line from Harvey Norman yesterday, lets see when than turns up.

Good to see that the local church is still praying for an end to the pandemic,

imagine how much trouble we would be in without their prayers!

Today's figures for Victoria are 471 new infections, down from 725 yesterday.  There were 8 further deaths in the last 24 hours in Victoria bringing our total to 170.  These 8 were in their 60's, 80's and 90's and 4 from the aged care system.  At the time of writing today's hospital and ICU figures had not been announced.

Now to the world figures.  Nearly every country on my spreadsheet reported increases in the number of infections and unfortunately nearly every country reported either increases in the number of deaths or similar numbers to last week.  The four biggies, USA, Brazil, Mexico and India unfortunately show no decline in the number of new infections or any decline in the death rate.  The USA reported nearly 7,800 deaths in the last week, Brazil 7,000, Mexico 4,300 and India 5,700.  Out of a total number of 41,000 deaths reported worldwide last week these four countries accounted for 25,000.

Apart from the UK the original group of European countries all reported deaths of less then 100 for the week.  The UK reported 403 deaths which is marginally less than the last two weeks.  Belgium, Spain, Italy, Sweden all reported less deaths for the week than Victoria and France was only marginally more.

Remember: to ask "are you OK"?, to work from home when you can, keep your vodka in the freezer, wash your hands, keep your distance, keep your mask on, sneeze into your elbow (yuk), don't sneeze with your mask on (yuk), don't touch your face, press the traffic light button with your foot, eat your vegies, don't ride your bike on the footpath, sanitize often, keep your glasses unfogged, obey the police at roadblocks, don't put your hat on the counter at the bakery (cause the lady will shout at you), don't go to work if you are crook, the lime in your V & T is a good source of vitamin C, don't go to a day spa and then boast about it on FB, pay with a card, don't use cash (because you are wearing a mask you could run away without paying) and be kind.

And now the State of Disaster remembers;

Remember: to stay indoors between 8.00pm and 5.00am, stay safe & stay strong, respect the 5km limits, don't try & get a haircut drink your coffee at home and be kind.

  1. I don't like the lockdown but when one in four who are positive, are not at home, then it's either lockdown or capital punishment. I think capital punishment might be a good deterrent, let's start with a public stoning or two and then for repeat offenders..... I think you get the drift. I am not traveling interstate until 2022 and if I do, I will hire a car with local plates. They are likely to do us some serious harm if we were seen after this debacle. One security guard started this although some people are saying it's not just the security guard. Well the outbreak is linked back to one person with a specific infection so that to me says it's a security guard. I had a great photo from my brother of his house in Launceston covered in snow. I think I will stop complaining about the weather in Melbourne.

    1. Would you believe that up until a couple of days ago people in isolation were allowed out of their home for exercise purposes, apparently to stop them would be a breach of their "human rights", WTF? Victoria has had a left/green government for the last 18 out of 21 years so it isn't hard to imagine the ilk of the government advisers and public servants.

      Snow in Launceston......now you know why property is cheap down there.

    2. When we had our outbreak in Burnie, a friend of mine who had been in contact with an infected person was made do 2 weeks quarantine and was not allowed any visitors or past her front gate for any reason whatsoever. Even had to get permission to put her rubbish bin out on the footpath ready for collection.
