Blog Day 138 - Sunday 09 August 2020
It looks like our health minister (Jenny Mikakos) may have had a little too much retsina last night and later in the evening took to twitter in some sort of mea culpa. Interestingly she started by reminding anybody who could be bothered with twitter of the achievements of the Greek nation, starting with the invention of democracy in 365BC or thereabouts. She didn't mention if the Greeks invented branch stacking in 364BC.
Strangely she neglected to mention any other achievements of the Greek people in the subsequent 2,000 years. I can think of a couple, mainly ouzo and tax avoidance.
I was surprised that her army of minders and spinners let her do this as it probably hasn't done her any favours. Hard to explain why you wouldn't answer any questions in parliament but happy to ramble on on twitter.
I think that some members of the government are finding running the state in a pandemic is a bit more difficult than being assistant treasurer of the local kindergarten committee from whence they came.
Now for today's figures. Victoria has reported 394 new infections for the last 24 hours. This is our lowest figure since 29 July and is part of a pattern of declining numbers for the last four days. Unfortunately we also recorded our highest number of deaths at 17 for the last 24 hours bringing the pandemic total to 210 for Victoria. Of the 17 two were males in their 50's the balance were males and females in their 70's 80's and 90's.
I daresay the number of deaths will continue to be high due to the higher infection numbers previously reported. It will take a while for the higher infection numbers to work their way through the system.
The world figures are slightly lower than previous days however as previously noted the Sunday world figures seem to be very unreliable.

The trend seems to be going in the right direction, although very slowly. Seems like this virus is going to be with us for a while... 138 days of the blog, seems like this has been going on for three times longer than that.
ReplyDeleteHow bizarre. Days have been recorded since day 1 of this blog and only now does it register, so much of our lives lost, never to be regained due to this virus. But you are a long time dead so I would rather reflect and ponder my civil war uprising than to fertilise daisies.
DeleteThank you Andrew for your reasoned and responsible contribution.
DeleteRichard.......well thank you as well.
