Blog Day 140 - Tuesday 11 August 2020

A little bit of good news today.  Two Sundays ago I bought a new PC from Harvey Norman in Moorabbin.  Well, imagine my dismay when the HN catalogue in yesterday's Age featured my new PC at a sale price $433 less than what I paid for it.  I got onto the HN website to find a phone number to contact them but that said that their phones were very busy and would take a long time to be answered.  So I sent them an email telling them nicely of my being a bit miffed about the price I had paid for my PC.  Within an hour I received an email response advising me my issue had been referred to the store where I purchased my PC and I could expect a contact from them within 48 hours.

About an hour after I received the email I received a phone call from a nice young man named Nigel from the HN store in Moorabbin.  He explained that I was one day outside of their seven day price guarantee policy however in this case they would make good the difference and refund me $433.  The only difficulty is that I have to go to the store with my credit card so that they can process the reversal and of course the store is closed.  So I have to wait 5 weeks or so until the shop is open to get my money back.

I reckon this is great service from the HN organisation and the local HN store and I am happy to tell people about it.  We are quick to complain about bad service but we should recognise good service when it happens as well.

Now onto today's virus figures.  Victoria reported 331 new infections for the last 24 hours bringing the total infections for the state to 15,251.  We have also reported a further 19 deaths for a total of 247.  Of these there was one female in her 50's, one male in his 70's, 6 females and 4 males in their 80's and 4 females and 3 males in their 90's.  Of the 47 Victorians in ICU 24 are on ventilators.

The world figures appear to be a bit 'steady as she goes' but will need to stay around the current figures for a few days for there to be any comfort in them.

Remember: to ask "are you OK"?, to work from home when you can, keep your vodka in the freezer, wash your hands, keep your distance, keep your mask on, sneeze into your elbow (yuk), don't sneeze with your mask on (yuk), don't touch your face, press the traffic light button with your foot, eat your vegies, don't ride your bike on the footpath, sanitize often, keep your glasses unfogged, obey the police at roadblocks, don't put your hat on the counter at the bakery (cause the lady will shout at you), don't go to work if you are crook, the lime in your V & T is a good source of vitamin C, don't go to a day spa and then boast about it on FB, pay with a card, don't use cash (because you are wearing a mask you could run away without paying) and be kind.

And now the State of Disaster remembers;

Remember: to stay indoors between 8.00pm and 5.00am, stay safe & stay strong, respect the 5km limits, don't try & get a haircut, drink your coffee at home, don't dither at the supermarket checkout, don't get Jim's Mowing in to cut your grass, get some virus approved exercise, shop at Harvey Norman for good service, and be kind.
