Blog Day 158 - Saturday 29 August 2020

Got up a bit later than usual this morning after a late night of trivia, eating, drinking and chatting.  Looked outside to blue skies and a forecast temperature of 20 degrees and thought "god is in his/her heaven and all is right with the world", until I came to my senses and realised that there is no god and all is not right with the world, certainly not for the 5,675 people who died worldwide in the last 24 hours and their families.

We are now two weeks away from the end of the current stage four lockdown but nobody from the guvermint is telling us what is going to happen when the lockdown ends.  The buzz word everybody is using is "road map", we all want a road map out of this shemozzle.  The premier is on his little ego driven power trip saying basically that he will tell us what is going to happen when he is good and ready.  How would you like to be trying to run a business in this state, not knowing if you should be getting ready to re-open (if you are closed) maybe get ready to bring your business out of hibernation if you have gone into sleep mode and so on.  Not really what you would call leadership, is it?

The number of new infections for the state are still looking good.  There were 94 new infections in the last 24 hours compared to 113 the day before.  This is the first time that there has been less than 100 infections in a day since 5th July.  Unfortunately there were 18 deaths in the last 24 hours and 13 the day prior.  Victoria has now recorded 513 deaths and there has been 600 Australia wide.  There are 481 Victorians in hospital with the virus and 26 in ICU with 17 on ventilators.  The numbers in hospital and ICU are also declining which should be reflected in a decline in the number of deaths in due course.

Nearly 300,000 new infections reported worldwide in the last 24 hours and over 5,600 deaths.  These figures are remaining high with the variations due to issues in reporting and recording.

And now the State of Disaster remembers;

Remember: to stay indoors between 8.00pm and 5.00am, stay safe & stay strong, respect the 5km limits, don't try & get a haircut, drink your coffee at home, don't dither at the supermarket checkout, don't get Jim's Mowing in to cut your grass, get some virus approved exercise, shop at Harvey Norman for good service, be honest, if in doubt wear a mask and a face shield, remember the fallen, get plenty of sleep, laugh at my jokes, have a virtual beer with a Vietnam vet, if you have to ask - the answer is no, remain vigilant, act responsibly, apologise if you are wrong, use Zoom to keep in touch, put your bins out before curfew and be kind.

Comments

  1. Meh - I don't think we should be potting the pollies in this current climate - I think both sides of the aisle have done a pretty cracking job given the system they have to operate in. The only pollie I have seen do a particularly bad job is that no-name federal minister of aged care. Walking away from his critics, done an poor job of taking responsibility and generally seems uninterested. That would be the only one I think who truly deserves a serve. At least in Australia - there's a pretty long list of incompetent leaders internationally. I think we can find a lot to criticize our pollies, on a range of issues - but on the corona front I think we've been pretty Lucky here - all states, federally, lib/labour.
