Blog Day 159 - Sunday 30 August 2020

We must be the biggest pack of idiots in Australia.  With possibly two weeks to go until the stage 4 lockdowns are relaxed, with the numbers of new infections dropping, all other numbers in respect to the virus infection declining and what do we do on the first nice Saturday for a few weeks?  We rush to the beach!  This isn't getting your hour of exercise, this isn't exercising within 5kms of home this is sheer lunacy.

And it would appear that a number of these people "exercising" at the beach weren't wearing masks.  We get what we deserve.

On my walk today a "jogger" probably in his 40's came jogging towards me, naturally as he was "jogging" he didn't have to wear a mask and he wasn't.  By his face colour, his sweating and shuffling gait I reckon today was the first time he had been "jogging' since 1997.  At least he wasn't at the beach.

Today's figures; 114 new virus infections reported in the last 24 hours in Victoria, up from 94 the day before.  The experts are telling us not to panic as the "rolling 7 day average" is still coming down.  Eleven deaths reported including 1 male in his 70's, 5 females and 1 male in their 80's and 3 females and 1 male in their 90's.  Nine of the 11 were in aged care facilities.  Total deaths for Victoria stand at 524 out of 611 nationally.  There are 472 Victorians in hospital with the virus, 25 in ICU and 11 on ventilators.

Not much change in the worldwide figures, 258,315 new infections and 5,467 deaths in the last 24
hours.

And now the State of Disaster remembers;

Remember: please don't go to the beach, to stay indoors between 8.00pm and 5.00am, stay safe & stay strong, respect the 5km limits, don't try & get a haircut, drink your coffee at home, don't dither at the supermarket checkout, don't get Jim's Mowing in to cut your grass, get some virus approved exercise, shop at Harvey Norman for good service, be honest, if in doubt wear a mask and a face shield, remember the fallen, get plenty of sleep, laugh at my jokes, have a virtual beer with a Vietnam vet, if you have to ask - the answer is no, remain vigilant, act responsibly, apologise if you are wrong, use Zoom to keep in touch, put your bins out before curfew and be kind.

  1. 7 day average is at about 120 which is the lowest it's been since the start of July - so we back to where we were then. At that stage we were at stage 2 - could gather in groups of 5 I think and the restaurants and cafes were open with a max of 20 and 4m2. So I'm pretty hopeful we'll be back at stage 3 by 13th sept. Possibly even a modified stage 3. And I'd say mid-Oct back to that stage 2 style we had before the last school holidays. And then hopefully we've got Businesses open and suppression working in Dec - just in time for Christmas.

By that stage Clive will have won his high court challenge and the borders will be openish (Not that I like him - but the constitution is the constitution...) Might even be able to get up to QLD in Jan...

AND, looks like we are really making headway on vaccines:

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2020/aug/29/covid-vaccine-tracker-when-will-a-coronavirus-vaccine-be-ready

So plenty to be positive about.

    1. Whether we go to stage 3, 4 or 2 it is time for the premier to provide some guidance as to what will trigger any of these events. If we go to stage 3 what is the timeframe for stage 2. Just after a little leadership that's all.

Maybe we should put Clive in charge, at least something would happen, not sure what but something would happen.

The news on the vaccines is good, both here (Queensland Uni) and England.

  2. Perhaps you should have our weather. 12 deg. today, and the wind would blow the milk out of your cup of tea, tomorrow we are expecting a top of 11 deg. so you would have no problem with anyone going to the beach or anywhere else. Until you mob clean up your act we are not allowed to go anywhere so the gov't is supposedly going to give us vouchers for $100 each towards accommodation to holiday in Tassie.

    1. Save your vouchers and I can use them when I am allowed to come over.

    2. Sorry but I think they are only valid for a few months and the way you are going over there I cannot see our premier letting you in for some time yet and we need the holiday not you.

  3. There was only 3 community transmission cases overnight Victoria wide
