Blog Day 162 - Wednesday 02 September 2020

One of my many FNQ readers has suggested that it is time for another in the occasional series of "What's in the Pantry Graeme"?  Today's entry is something special that I am saving for a special time, probably a celebration of some sort when this virus thing is all over and people can get together and celebrate.

Now that will be a celebration with smoked oysters on jatz biscuits.

I have got myself distracted by looking up a TGW soldier's record, interesting story enlisted aged 18 yrs and 5 months, wounded on Gallipoli, suffered trench fever in France, married in England during the war, promoted from private to CSM (WO2), awarded the MM in France and wounded again in France in 1918 and returned to Australia in 1919.

Somehow the premier got the Greens representative in the upper house to vote for the extension of the state of emergency although for 6 months instead of 12.  I shudder to think what has been promised to the Greens to get their vote, no cars in the city & everybody in Victoria has to ride bicycles to work or similar and I jest not. The leader of the Victorian Greens has refused to answer repeated questions as to what deals had been done.  Democracy at work.

So quickly to today's figures.  Victoria reported 90 further infections in the last 24 hours up from 70 and 73 for the previous two days.  Lets hope just a glitch with testing and reporting.  A further 6 deaths were reported for the last 24 hours, although apparently 3 of those were from a previous period, 5 males in their 80's and 1 male in his 90's.  The number of Victorians in hospital and ICU is continuing to decline with 406 in hospital and 18 in intensive care with 13 on ventilators.

The worldwide figures are following the usual patter and increasing as the week proceeds, however both the new infections and deaths remain within the parameters of the previous weeks.

And now the State of Disaster remembers;

Remember: please don't go to the beach, to stay indoors between 8.00pm and 5.00am, stay safe & stay strong, respect the 5km limits, don't try & get a haircut, drink your coffee at home, don't dither at the supermarket checkout, don't get Jim's Mowing in to cut your grass, get some virus approved exercise, shop at Harvey Norman for good service, be honest, if in doubt wear a mask and a face shield, remember the fallen, get plenty of sleep, laugh at my jokes, have a virtual beer with a Vietnam vet, if you have to ask - the answer is no, remain vigilant, act responsibly, apologise if you are wrong, use Zoom to keep in touch, put your bins out before curfew, don't smoke around your baby and be kind.
