Blog Day 175 - 16 September 2020
A lion walks into a bar, half drunk, a cigarette hanging from his mouth, coat matted and dirty, mane uncombed and scraggy, the barkeeper looks at him and says "where's your pride"?
Back from my RDO, renewed, refreshed and revitalised. On my day off I read the papers, went for a walk, did a little housework, read my book, attended a zoom meeting, had a V&T or two .......hang on a sec, wasn't that the day before or the day before that???
For our Shrine volunteer zoom meeting yesterday we discussed the movie "The Eagle Has Landed". The movie is based on the Jack Higgins book of the same name. It is fiction, based during the second world war, and is the story of a group of German commandos who land in England to kidnap Winston Churchill. It is a good movie with lots of action and the good guys win, the British that is, although in this movie the Germans are the good guys as well. You sort of start to root for the Germans and hope that they succeed in their plan, but that was never going to happen. Great cast, with Michael Caine playing the good German in charge of the commandos and Donald Sutherland with a wandering Irish accent. Somebody asked me the other day when the movie was made and I said sometime in the 90's. I was out a tad, it was actually made in 1976, my how time gets away from us.
I had to remind the Shrine Ed staff that I had nominated Zulu as a movie to watch and discuss some time ago and have heard nothing further!!!! I have also added the last episode of Black Adder Comes Forth to my recommended list along with TGW movie/play Journey's End. Apparently one of the other volunteers has suggested 58 movies to watch, what chance have I got, although I tend to go for quality over quantity, as you can see by my selection.
And now to today's figures. Victoria reported 42 new infections in the last 24 hours which is the same figure as for the previous 24 hours. We reported 8 more deaths in the last 24 hours zero deaths in the previous 24 hours. There are 117 Victorians in hospital due to the virus and 11 in ICU with 6 on ventilators.
The rolling 14 day average is as below;
15/09: Metro 53, Regional 4, State Total 57
16/09: Metro 49.6, Regional ?, State Total ?
I haven't been able to find the regional average for yesterday but as you can see the crucial metropolitan average is now below 50 (just), lets hope it continues to drop.
The worldwide figures aren't showing any improvement with 294,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 6,800 deaths. Further analysis of the international figures tomorrow.

And now the stage 4 lockdown 2 week extension remembers.
Remember: to follow the legal instructions of a police officer, not to get carried away with false optimism (again),
