Blog Day 177 - 18 September 2020
Welcome to virus free Friday.
An elephant walks into a bar and asks the barkeeper if he can use the phone, the barkeeper said "yes but if you make any more trunk calls I will have to take you to tusk". (Even laughed at that one myself).
Great story in the press yesterday of a snake catcher called to a suburban service station to remove a tiger snake that had ensconced itself on a petrol pump. Lots of publicity for the snake catcher you would think and yes you would be right, especially when the servo CCTV showed said snake catcher planting the snake there beforehand so to speak. Can't pay for that sort of publicity.
I have been sitting up of a night to watch Le Tour although 11.30 - 12.00 usually sees me trotting off to bed. Don't know how I used to sit up to 3.00am and watch it and then go to work. Currently Le Tour is in one of the mountain stages in the French Alps and the scenery is spectacular, particularly when you are not riding a bicycle up it. The Australian, Tasmanian even, Richie Porte is currently coming 4th in the General Classification (GC) and is a good chance for a podium finish in Paris on Sunday. The other Australian, Caleb Ewan, is a sprinter and he is coming 5th in the sprint competition. Ewan has a good chance of winning the sprint competition on the Champs Elysees on Sunday which would be a great result for him. Ewan has already won two stages of the race, but won't win one whilst the race is in the mountains. On the mountain stages he tries to hang onto the back of the peloton and complete the race in the time allowed, its called survival.
I know some of my readers do not appreciate Le Tour, well they don't know what they are missing.
Very, very busy at Woolies this morning and I said to the checkout guy "it's almost like we are expecting another lockdown" and nearly started a stampede towards the toilet paper aisle.
Some of you maybe interested in what I am currently reading. My main book at the moment is Richard Fidler's "The Golden Maze" subtitled "A Biography of Prague". Some of you may be familiar with Richard Fidler he is a commentator on ABC radio and was a member of the 'Doug Anthony Allstars" back in the day. His book is a history of the Czech city of Prague and is written in an amusing and interesting manner. I am just up to the collapse of the communist government in 1989. If any of you have an interest in European history I would highly recommend it.
Fidler has also written a similar book on the city of Constantinople or as some people call it Istanbul, which will also go onto my to read list, which is a bit extensive at the moment.
With all the bookshops closed at the moment all I can say is thank goodness for ebooks. I have been a fan of ebooks for some time now but the current circumstances has made me value them even more. Don't get me wrong I still like and buy proper paper books but ebooks certainly have their place.
That will do for today, update on figures tomorrow.
