Blog Day 179 - 20 September 2020

A general walked into a bar and the barman said "where are your armies"? and the general said "in my sleevies".

Good to see that Richie Porte performed well enough in the individual time trial (ITT) in Le Tour last night to move from 4th to 3rd in the General Classification (GC) category.  The final day of the race (today) is traditionally a procession into Paris for the GC riders so barring any major incidents Porte will be on the podium in Paris with 3rd place in Le Tour.  The first Australian to have podium finish since Cadell Evans won the race in 2011.

During the race Porte's wife gave birth to their baby and Porte is still to see his wife and his newborn baby.

The other Australian in the race is Caleb Ewan and he is a sprinter.  The Tour traditionally finishes with a sprint race up and down the Champes Elysees, so the race is very much alive for the sprinters.  Ewan has already won to two stages so for him to win on the Champes Elysees would be a great outcome.

The telecast doesn't start until 11.30 tonight so I think that I will be watching it on replay.

I love watching the riders riding around the streets of Paris, some of which are very familiar, and of course this time wondering when we will be able to go there.

Apparently the protesters have been out again today with a few dozen turning up at Chaddie, singing the Johnny Farnham classic "The Voice" and then disbursing.  Wonder if they paid the royalties.

Victoria has reported 14 new infections for the last 24 hours which is a great figure and our lowest since 19 June.  We have also reported 5 deaths for the last 24 hours.  There are 94 Victorians in hospital with virus infections which is up slightly on the previous day.  There are 8 patients in ICU and 5 on ventilators.

The south eastern cluster whose ethnic origins will never be spoken of ever again has increased from 34 to 40.

The rolling 14 day averages are still continuing to decline which is good news;

19/09: Metro 39.3, Regional 1.9, Total 41.2
20/09: Metro 36.2, Regional 1.8 Total 38.0

If all goes well we have only one week of this extended stage 4 lockdown to go.

The world wide figures have come down a bit for the last 24 hours but as usual I think that this is just an aberration in the reporting and not anything to put any confidence in.

(You will notice in the table below that there are some blank spaces, at 2.52pm neither state, federal or media sites have updated the missing figures for the last 24 hours, must be still on their tea break).

And now the stage 4 lockdown 2 week extension remembers.

Remember: to follow the legal instructions of a police officer, not to get carried away with false optimism (again), if you are going to run a road block do it when it is raining, tell the truth, don't go to any protests.
