Blog Day 192 - 03 October 2020

 Well, I learnt something new today and it is not often that you will hear me say that.  I learnt today that as it gets warmer it gets more and more difficult to go for a walk wearing a mask.  It was only 28 this morning and even at that temperature walking with the mask on was a pain, and being a bit humid didn't make things any easier.  And before the FNQ contingent jump on me I know that we don't know what humid is.

That reminds me that some of my many FNQ readers are attending a bit of a knees up in Mission Beach this weekend.  Mission Beach is a delightful part of the world, 100km or so south of Cairns.  Very pretty in a tropical sort of way, home to the Cassowary (a very very large very very aggressive bird) with Dunk Island just off the coast.  Dunk hasn't recovered from a couple of cyclones a few years ago and is not open to guests.  A consortium recently bought Dunk or took over the lease to redevelop it but they have run into financial problems of their own and various liquidators, receivers, administrators and other financial vultures are circling around.

Is this a Cassowary or a financial vulture?

Mission Beach is close to another town called Tully which is inland and not quite as picturesque as Mission Beach.  The most recent cyclone to hit Tully did $8 million worth of improvements.  (I couldn't think of a walking into a bar joke this morning so this will do for the daily joke, although if you knew Tully you wouldn't think that it was a joke).

In the last 24 hours Victoria recorded 8 new infections and 7 the day before.  We recorded 3 new deaths with 2 in the previous 24 hours bringing the Victorian death toll to 805 and the national death toll to 893.  Victoria currently has 34 patients in hospital with virus issues and 4 in ICU with 3 on ventilators.

Rolling 14 day average;

02/10: Metro 12.8, Regional .2, Total 13.0
03/10: Metro 12.0, Regional .1, Total 12.1

Although the Victorian and Australian figures are looking good unfortunately the same can't be said for the worldwide figures.  In the last 24 hours there were 353,000 new infections reported and 324,000 in the previous 24 hours.  The death figures are also high with 5,700 deaths reported in the last 24 hours and 9,300 in the previous 24 hours.  These infection and death figures are amongst the highest that I have recorded since at least the beginning of July.  Continued continental isolation anyone?

And now the stage 4 lockdown 2nd step restrictions remembers.

Remember: if you are doing anything wrong don't get caught, it could cost you $5,000!; you gotta wear a face mask no more face shields - thems the rules; somebody somewhere is testing your poo!; do not under any circumstances annoy a Cassowary.
