Blog Day 200 - 11 October 2020

A man rushed into a bar looking all hot and bothered and ordered a drink, the barman said "you look all hot and bothered what has happened"?  The man said "there has been a bomb scare at the local church and there has been a mass evacuation"!

Would you believe that it is 200 days of the blog today, who would have thought that on blog day 1,  Tuesday 24 March 2020, that 200 days later we would still be in this mess.  Although it was day 1 of the blog the pandemic had been officially running for 78 days.  On 15 March the Grand Prix in Melbourne was cancelled and on 21 March I opted out of a planned camping and fishing trip due to my own concerns about where the pandemic was going.

On day 1 of the blog there were 411 and confirmed virus cases in Victoria, we have now have 20,281 and Australia had recorded 1,895 cases which has grown to a current figure of 27,261.

Worldwide there was 377,926 recorded cases of the virus, this figure is now 37,451,466 and there had been 16,488 deaths, we have now recorded 1,077,226 deaths worldwide.

Who would have thought that we would have people fighting over toilet paper, that Melbourne would have a curfew and a 5km limit on travel, nearly everybody working from home (those that have jobs), police going around arresting grandmas for sitting on park benches, compulsory wearing of face masks, the CBD deserted, that we would all become zoom experts, AFL being played in hubs in QLD & WA, Collingwood getting thrashed in a prelim final, no overseas travel for the foreseeable future and extremely limited domestic travel, locked down state borders with checkpoints manned by police and ADF, Melbourne surrounded by a "ring of steel" and public paranoia driven by social media about anything and everything.

On day one of the blog we were not in formal isolation although I think that a lot of people were already starting to take precautions.  Apart from a 2 week break in June we have been in some sort of lockdown since March this year.  Of course there is supposed to be an easing of the current restrictions next Sunday but we are getting the message from the premier not to expect to much.

All in all, given what has happened in this state I think that Victorians have coped remarkably well and if we demonstrate the same grit in the recovery stage we should come out of this better than expected.

Back to the present, Victoria has recorded 12 new infections in the last 24 hours a small decline from 14 the day before.  We have also recorded 1 further death, our first in some days, which brings the state total to 810 and the national total of deaths to 898.  There are 21 Victorians in hospital due to the virus with zero in intensive care.

Rolling 14 day figures;

10/10: Metro 9.5, Regional .4, Total 9.9
11/10: Metro 9.3, Regional .4, Total 9.7

Worldwide the figures are rolling along with no significant improvement, 352,332 new infections recorded in the last 24 hours and 4,621 deaths.  Compare these figures to the figures at day 1 of the blog.  On 24 March worldwide there had  been 378,000 recorded infections, that is not much more than the current daily figure, and 16,000 deaths, we are currently recording that many every 4 or so days. That's not very encouraging is it?

And now the stage 4 lockdown 2nd step restrictions remembers.

Remember: if you are doing anything wrong don't get caught, it could cost you $5,000!; you gotta wear a face mask no more face shields - thems the rules; somebody somewhere is testing your poo!; do not under any circumstances annoy a Cassowary; if you need a boost to your morale watch Zulu; keep to your 5km zone and if that doesn't include a beach don't go to the beach; try not to commit perjury (allegedly); to vote if you don't want a fine, show true grit.

Comments

  1. Here is on for you because your jokes are not improving. Hate to think how bad they are going to get if your lockdown goes on for much longer.

    Little known fact.....
    Before the crowbar was invented, most crows drank at home.
