Blog Day 206 - Sunday 18 October 2020

It is a little ironic that the first all Victorian grand final in the footy since 2011 is being played at the GABBA in Qld.

I've got a few things to do this arvo so just a quick update on the premier's announcements this morning and the update on the virus stats.

I wrote these changes down as the premier announced them so I am sure that there will be queries and clarifications to come.  These changes only apply to the metropolitan area.

From 11.59pm this evening the following will apply to metropolitan Melbourne's lockdown restrictions;
  • There will be no time limits on leaving your home for one of the permitted reasons, say exercise.
  • The four permitted reasons rule for leaving your home will still apply.
  • The 5km limit on travel will be extended to 25km (for permitted reasons).
  • Outdoor gatherings will be allowed for up to 10 people from 2 households (this applies only to public spaces).
  • Various businesses can open tomorrow including, hairdressers (thank goodness), real estate agents, swimming pools, pet grooming, non essential home repairs - all subject to rules and conditions.
  • General retail still cannot open.
  • Hospitality still cannot open.
From 11.59 on Sunday 1/11 the the restrictions will be eased further as follows;
  • The four reasons to leave home will be removed
  • Visits to home will be allowed (subject to conditions)
  • Retail will be allowed to open.
  • Hospitality will be allowed to open with 20 customers indoors and 50 outdoors (subject to conditions)
  • Beauty parlours etc will be allowed to open
  • Increase in the numbers that can attend weddings and funerals.
The premier also advised us that if we are good little Victorians and the figures remain low that the changes scheduled for 1/11 maybe brought forward a week to Monday 26/10.  However this will still not allow for any gatherings at hotels etc or private homes for grand final functions next Saturday.

Nothing was said about masks so I am assuming we still have to wear them when we are out and about.

The ring of steel remains separating Melbourne from the rest of the state for the time being.

Victoria reported 2 new infections in the last 24 hours which is twice the number of the previous day which was 1.  No new deaths were reported and there are 12 Victorians in hospital due to the virus and none in ICU.

The 14 Day Rolling Average;

17/10: Metro 8.5, Regional .6, Total 9.1
18/10: Metro 7.5, Regional .5, Total 8.0

Must dash, I've got to watch the 1940's episode of "Back in Time for Dinner" in preparation for this week's Shrine volunteer discussion group.

Cheers......

  1. Think that we should all be able to see a before and after photo when you go to get your hair cut.

  2. Maybe we could meet in a park and pretend we are exercising?
