Blog Day 212 - Sunday 25 October 2020

Congratulations to the Richmond Tigers for their win in the AFL grand final last night.  The fairly ordinary entertainment that the AFL usually put on for the grand final almost looked good last night with plenty of special effects lighting, fireworks etc.  Is this enough of a reason for future night grand finals?  I think that the game played under lights was also more of a spectacle.  This question will be debated ad nauseum until next year's grand final I daresay.  I wonder if Dusty's dad managed to sneak into Brissy to see him play.

After strongly hinting all week that there would be some relaxation of the lockdown rules today the premier has today announced - no change!  So the retail and hospitality outlets that were preparing to open this week will again be sorely disappointed and their potential customers who were looking forward to attending said retail and hospitality outlets this week will also be sorely disappointed.

The premier has advised us that there were 7 new case recorded in Victoria in the last 24 hours all in the Melbourne metropolitan area and 6 of these were from the Northern suburbs cluster.  That is two days in a row with 7 new cases.  Apparently there are 1,000 tests from the northern cluster for which the results are still unknown and the premier is not prepared to make any move on opening up the current restrictions until those results are available.

In the premier's words further announcements will be made "in a couple of days" and that's a quote.

The premier also gave us a hint as to the ethnic group responsible for the northern suburbs cluster when he said that we need to be 'doubly sure', is this the same as saying "to be sure, to be sure".  Looks like I was right with my educated guess yesterday, for those who haven't read yesterday's blog (first up shame on you) its the Irish.

So, as advised by the premier, yesterday the state recorded 7 new cases the same as the day before (for your info NSW also recorded 7 new cases in the last 24 hours but these were all returned travellers).  We have had another day with no new deaths as a result of the virus and we have 7 people in hospital and none in ICU due to the virus.

14 Day Rolling Average;

24/10: Metro: 5.5, Regional .3, 5.8
25/10: Metro: 4.6, Regional .2, 4.8

At 4.6 for the rolling 14 day target for metropolitan Melbourne we have beaten the target figure of 5.0, although that doesn't seem to account for much at the moment.

The worldwide figures are worrying as they are remaining high, traditionally the weekend figures are lower probably due to omissions in reporting over the weekend.  The worldwide new infections for the last 24 hours were 462,834 and deaths 6,047.

And now the stage 4 lockdown 3rd step restrictions remembers;

Remember: we still can't walk into a bar and get a beer; no matter how hard we try sometimes the figures just don't add up; if you are subpoenaed to produce documents to produce all of them!; to gamble responsibly; .

  1. Yes I saw your comment yesterday about the Irish and didn't think that it deserved comment but after seeing it again today, well put it this way, if I was standing in the trenches and you said 'follow me', I would run the opposite way. It would only end in tears following you. As for the grand final, at night and in Brisbane, hmmm. True followers would say it was a long day having to wait. But as a neutral observer I'd give it another go before passing judgement. The papers raved about how good the NRL entertainment was. Clearly I was watching the wrong channel.

    1. Thank you for your vote of confidence in my leadership skills. I think that the night grand final was a greater spectacle but I can understand the traditionalists still wanting an afternoon event. But between you and me I think that the night time grand final is inevitable, maybe not next year but sometime in the not too distant future.
