Blog Day 126 - 08 November 2020

 As the corona virus restrictions have been further relaxed and we can get out and about a bit I might not attend to the blog every day.  So if I miss a day or two here and there don't panic I haven't been kidnapped by gypsies or eaten some of my emergency supplies that have been sitting in the back of the cupboard for a bit too long.

Although, I recall all too clearly the last time I thought that I could ease up a bit on the blog and we all know how that ended up.  Back in lockdown and curfew.

I have been out today to a very nice brunch catching up with some people I hadn't seen for while, including a 7 week old baby, who was born during the lockdown.  A beautiful spring day in Melbourne and if felt great to be out and about.

The premier announced this morning that the ring of steel around metropolitan Melbourne will be lifted at 11.59pm this evening and the 25km travel limit will be abolished as well.  Restaurants, cafes and bars will be able to increase their patronage to 40 indoors and 70 outdoors, subject to distancing restrictions.  Gyms, cinemas, galleries and museums will able to open tomorrow but with restrictions to apply to numbers and distancing.  I have just checked the Shrine web page and there is nothing there about when that will be reopening.

Further loosening of restrictions will be applied in two weeks time, the major one will be an increase to 10 of the number of people who can visit somebody else's home.

Victoria has recorded it's 9th day of no new infections and no new deaths.  There were only three new infections reported Australia wide and these were in NSW and were all returned overseas travellers in hotel quarantine.  Australia wide there are currently 88 active cases and only 4 of those are in Victoria with 42 in NSW.  NSW has been taking the bulk of the returning overseas travellers so I suppose that we can cut them some slack.

The 14 day average for Victoria has continued to decline as below;

07/11: Metro 0.9, Regional .1, Total 1.0
08/11: Metro 0.4, Regional .0, Total 0.4

Take a moment to compare the Victorian and Australian figures to the worldwide figures below.

Unfortunately the worldwide figures continue to be disastrous with 614,000 new infections reported and 8,400 new deaths. The total worldwide virus infections has now cracked the 50 million mark. These figures are massive because usually the Sunday figures a very low due to under reporting over the weekend. So we could be in for a rocky ride worldwide in the coming week.

And now the stage 4 lockdown 3rd step restrictions remembers;

Remember: Apparently we can walk into a bar and get a beer; no matter how hard we try sometimes the figures just don't add up; if you are subpoenaed to produce documents to produce all of them!; don't take your eyes off the ball; keep your visitor log book; don't hang around smoking outside a cafe; don't travel to Peru; gamble responsibly; continue to wear your mask responsibly especially at the beach; be careful drinking and gambling, dangerous combination!; don't be a dill and forget to wear your mask on your walk; we can't go beyond our 25km limit just yet.
