Blog Day 133 - Sunday 15 November 2020
No blog yesterday as I had a day out. I travelled down to Mt Duneed which is new housing estate the other side of Geelong to visit some friends who moved down there during the quarantine period. It was quite the adventure driving down the Geelong road which is usually one of the most boring drives in the world however for me on this trip it was full of wonderment and excitement. I could even see all the Jetstar aircraft parked up at Avalon airfield, lets hope that they are in the air sooner rather than later.
My friends are living in a rented property waiting for their new house to be completed in the same subdivision. I had a look at the new house and it is very nearly finished in a street of houses at the same stage. The subdivision has a brand new primary school and large site set aside for a new high school, a new shopping centre and railway station are all to be built.
This was the first time that I had seen my friends since February this year and their little girl who was weeks old when I last saw her is now 10 months old and very cheeky. Their little boy who had just turned 5 is not far off turning 6 and is a bundle of energy as always. Do these kids ever stop?
It was great to be able to travel around and not be concerned with distance restrictions or the ring of steel.
The premier indicated in the media conference that he may have something to say about the wearing of masks next Sunday. Next Sunday will be the end of this 14 day cycle and there is an expectation of further relaxation of the rules. Possibly more people allowed in restaurants etc and more visitors to family homes and maybe opening of cinemas and the like.
The Victorian and Australian figures support a relaxation of the rules to some degree. Although I am seriously concerned about what is going to happen in Victoria when we start to take in overseas travellers. I am concerned that a socialist/left government and public service is more likely to take advice from the Human Rights Commission than the Department of Health, I sincerely hope that I am wrong. There is some discussion about allowing some returning travellers to self quarantine at home, this would be a huge mistake. As we have seen some people are unable to obey the rules, how do the authorities decide who will follow the rule of home quarantine and who won't.
The last thing we need is the virus back out in the community. Look at Europe and see how easy it is for it to get away from us.
Today Victoria has recorded it's 16 day of zero new infections and zero deaths. Australia wide we recorded 13 new infections, all in overseas travellers returning to Australia (how come these people aren't being picked up at the embarkation airport and prevented from travelling until they are clear of the virus)? Victoria has 3 active virus cases and NSW has 21, Australia wide the are 69 active virus cases.
The rolling 14 day average for Victoria is zero for both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
The worldwide figures remain scarily high, 596,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 631,000 the day before. There were 9,551 deaths in the last 24 hours and 9,080 the day before.

And now the Towards Covid Normal remembers;
Remember: Keep wearing your mask!; remember to remember Remembrance Day; the price of corona virus liberty is eternal vigilance; enjoy the new found freedoms but not too much, just yet.
