Blog Day 140 - Sunday 22 November 2020

Today is day 23 of a zero - zero result in Victoria.

I spent another day out and about yesterday with a trip down to Mornington and lunch out as Steeples at the Mornington race course, very nice and all appropriately covid managed.  This getting out and about is starting to turn into a bit of a habit.  Lets hope that nothing happens to interrupt it.

Today is the end of another 14 day cycle and the premier has announced a series of further relaxations of the covid virus lockdown rules, the major changes are summarised below to apply from 11.59pm this evening;
  • Up to 15 people can attend a persons home
  • Outdoor gatherings of up to 50 people are allowed
  • Up to25% of office workers to return to work from the end of the month with subsequent increases to be announced.
  • Not necessary to wear a mask outdoors unless in a crowd.  The premier used a Bunnings example, you don't have to wear a mask if you are walking through the Bunnings car park but you have to put it on in the store, and you should wear your mask if you are lining up with other people to buy a sausage.  Simples! (Surprising for this day and age the premier didn't tell us if the onions had to go on first or last).
  • You should still carry a mask so that you can put it on where necessary
  • Increase in hospitality venues of up to 100 patron subject to varying distancing rules dependant on the size of the venue.
  • Museums, galleries, cinemas etc can open for 25% of their capacity.
  • Lots of other changes affecting sporting venues and the like which does not affect me.
Further review in 14 days.

From December 13 a total of 30 people can attend a home through the course of a day.  Therefore you could have 30 people all at once or total of 30 people attend your home through the day.

To me this all sounds reasonable and practical, however the big test will be when we start taking in overseas travellers.

There is still some discussion about how the Australian Open tennis is going to work with some suggestion that it be delayed for a month or so to the end  of February or into March.

So, no new infections or deaths in Victoria in the last 24 hours, this is as a result of 10,500 test results in the last 24 hours.  In this period NSW conducted 12,000 tests and SA nearly 17,000.  There were 12 new cases reported Australia wide in the last 24 hours, 11 in NSW and 1 in Qld, all returned travellers.  Currently there are 90 active cases Australia wide with 1 in Victoria (who is in hospital), 15 in NSW, 13 in Qld and 37 in SA.

The overseas news is still all bad, 591,000 new cases reported worldwide in the last 24 hours and 9,054 deaths overseas in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of overseas deaths to 1,386,000.  Nearly 12,000 died in the previous 24 hours which is the highest figure I have seen since I started recording in early July.

And now the Towards Covid Normal remembers;

Remember: Keep wearing your mask until 11.59pm!; remember to remember Remembrance Day; the price of corona virus liberty is eternal vigilance; enjoy the new found freedoms but not too much, just yet; don't get your tennis racquet out just yet; don't travel to SA; don't count your chickens before they hatch; wear your mask when you are buying your sausage.
