Blog Day 150 - Wednesday 02 December 2020

Yesterday morning I woke up with a bit of a scratchy throat so I decided I should get a virus test, to be sure, to be sure (as they say in Ireland).  Drove to the drive in testing site in the multi level car park near Holmesglen TAFE in Chadstone and joined the queue.  After about an hour wait I was tested and sent on my way.  Last night at about 7.00pm in the evening I received a SMS message telling me that my test was negative.

They still swab the back of your throat but the nose part of the test has been changed in that they don't go as deep into the back of your nose any more but they do both nostrils instead.  Still slightly uncomfortable but over quickly enough.  The staff are remarkably polite and professional, especially when you consider what they are doing all day.  A couple of the people that attended to me were doctors, I bet they didn't think that they would be doing this when they signed up for medical school.  But, good on em.

I mentioned the other day that some of the Pakistani cricket team touring New Zealand had tested positive for the virus.  Another 3 or four of the team have now tested positive making 10 positive tests from a touring party of 53.  They are also on their final warning about breaches of quarantine and if any more breaches are identified they will be sent home.  How many tennis players and hangers on are we talking about bringing into Victoria for the Aus Open??

Sewage alert:  Traces of the virus has been found in the sewage in Colac.  (This might be a new regular feature of the blog).

Victoria has reported 33 days of zero new infections and zero deaths and there is also zero cases in the community.  There were 9 new cases reported Australia wide, 6 in NSW and 3 in Qld, all returned overseas travellers. This is from 12,177 test results in Victoria (including me), over 13,000 tests NSW, 4,600 tests in Qld and 6,700 tests in SA.

There are currently 56 active cases in Australia with 42 of these being returned overseas travellers.  Vic has zero active cases, Qld, WA and SA have 10 active cases apiece.

Worldwide the figures are climbing back up with more that 600,000 cases reported worldwide, taking the worldwide pandemic infections to over 64 million.  Deaths were back up with more than 12,200 reported in the last 24 hours for a total of 1,485,672.

Remember: Wear your mask when you are buying your Bunnings sausage; no holidays in Britain for a while yet; be careful planning your computer upgrades (my most recent upgrade cost me $1,400); somebody is probably checking your poo; if in doubt get tested (it doesn't hurt, honestly).
