Blog Day 176 - Monday 28 December 2020

Day 3 of the 2nd test, Australia v India at the MCG and it would appear that the Indians have the upper hand at the moment with a 1st innings lead of 130 with 2 wickets in hand, with 15 minutes to go to lunch.  Pretty exciting eh???

Went for my usual walk today and being a public holiday the usually bustling streets of Bentleigh East were a bit quiet with a couple of the cafes being busy and not worrying too much about the still current distancing rules.

NSW has reported a corona virus related death.  It is of male in his 70's who died last week from lung complications arising from when he had the virus infection in March of this year.  This is the first death in Australia since 30/11 when we had a similar death in Victoria.  We are experiencing one death a month relating back to infections from months ago when the rest of the world is experiencing thousands of deaths per day.

Australia wide 21 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours including 2 new cases in Victoria, both returned overseas travellers; 14 new cases in NSW, 5 as part of the northern beaches cluster and 9 returned overseas travellers; Qld reported 5 new cases all overseas travellers; Australia wide there were 21 new cases 16 of which were returned overseas travellers.

These results were the outcome of 5,900 test results reported in Victoria in the last 24 hours, 15,400 test  results in NSW and 3,100 test results in Qld.

Currently there are 11 active cases in Victoria, 139 in NSW, 13 in Qld, 5 in SA and 11 in NT.  Australia wide there are 193 active cases 53 of which are returned travellers.

Worldwide there were 415,000 new infections reported in the last 24 hours with 7,000 deaths reported for the same time period.  These figures are a bit down on previous figures however that could be as a result of underreporting over the weekend and Christmas break.  It would be nice if it was a genuine reduction, I daresay only time will tell.
