Blog Day 181 - Saturday 02 January 2021
Not much to report today but as my sister has reminded me that on the days I don't do the blog the world seems to go to hell in a handbasket. So that is a responsibility that rest heavily on my shoulders.
Victoria's border with NSW was closed at midnight last night. Qld is still open to Victorians. Would hate for Flashy and Lady P to be trapped here in Victoria for no other reason that I don't think that my liver could handle it. Cheers!
The genome testing of the Victorian infections has revealed the source to be the NSW cluster.
The Melbourne testing sites were exceeding capacity and closing down to further testees minutes after their opening times at 9.00am with people lining up from 7.00am in the morning
Today's national figures are a bit skewed cause it doesn't appear that NSW has reported anything for the last 24 hours. The figures that I have for NSW are currently unconfirmed.
In the last 24 hours Victoria reported 12 new cases, 10 of which were locally acquired and 2 returned overseas travellers. One of the infected overseas travellers was aircrew from an international flight. It would appear that NSW had 7 new local infections in the last 24 hours however this is unconfirmed.
In the last 24 hours Victoria received the results of 18,000 tests with apparently thousands more in the pipeline and NSW received the results of 32,000 tests in the same period.
Currently Victoria has 29 active cases and NSW 173. There are 247 active cases nationally including returned overseas travellers in quarantine.
Although the number of infections in NSW and Vic are gradually rising hospital numbers are declining with only 19 in hospital due to the virus nationally and none in ICU.
Worldwide there were over 572,000 new infections in the last 24 hours, less than the last few days but still took the total number of infections worldwide to over 84 million. There were nearly 10,000 deaths reported wordwide in the last 24 hours, again slightly less than previous days but the total number of deaths worldwide exceeds 1.834 million.

Covid Safe Summer Reminders;
Remember; stay safe and sober for the new year, I know I will be; no hugging and kissing strangers on new years eve!; don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things; as the captain of the Graf Spee said "you have to be bigger than anything faster and faster than anything bigger"; to wear your mask indoors (again); if you have a tickle in your throat, get tested (again).
