Blog Day 294 - Friday 15 January 2021

Day one of the crucial 4th test between Australia and India being played at the Gabba in Brisbane.  Halfway through the morning session and Australia batting are 2 wickets for 39 runs. Davey Warner faced 4 balls and was out for 1 run in the 1st over and Harris was out for 5 runs shortly after.  Australia has a real problem with it's opening pair at the moment and this is against a fairly indifferent Indian bowling attack.

Whilst on sporting matters, lets see what is happening with the AO.  The tennis player who tested positive in the US was, after some confusion, finally allowed to fly to Melbourne.  Andy Murray has also tested positive to the virus and his travel has to be delayed therefore he will miss the chartered flights that TA have put on to bring the players to Melbourne.  Murray will need to travel on a regular commercial flight.  This will upset a few people, particularly those who have been waiting for months to get on a flight to come home.  Maybe they should have learnt to play tennis.

Victoria has now reported 9 days of zero local infections.  In the last 24 hours Victoria and NSW reported 2 new infections each, all ROTs.  Qld reported 3 new infections, 2 of which were ROTs and 1 new local infection.  I think that the new local infection in Qld was the spouse of the hotel cleaner who had previously tested positive to the virus.  In the last 24 hours Victoria received the results of 15,000 tests, NSW 16,000 tests and Qld nearly 11,000 tests.  The Qld premier has commented that she would like to see the testing rate increased in that state.

There are currently 28 active cases in Victoria, 15 of whom are ROTs, 155 active cases in NSW (excluding 77 ROTs) and 30 active cases in Qld, all ROTs.  Australia wide there are 260 active cases including 92 ROTs.

Worldwide there were nearly 760,000 new infections recorded in the last 24 hours and 15,800 deaths.  This brings the total number of deaths worldwide for the pandemic over the 2 million mark at 2,001,209.

I see that France is imposing a national 6.00pm to 6.00am curfew.

Covid Safe Summer Reminders;

Remember; stay safe and sober for the new year, I know I will be; no hugging and kissing strangers on new years eve!; don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things; as the captain of the Graf Spee said "you have to be bigger than anything faster and faster than anything bigger"; to wear your mask indoors (again); if you have a tickle in your throat, get tested (again); to add Brissie to your list of places to avoid; at a 1st birthday party be first in line for the fairy bread; try not to spend too much at Bunnings.
