Blog Day 301 - Friday 22 January 2021

 There are unconfirmed reports that the Japanese government is about to pull the pin on the Tokyo Olympics. This has been reported by Reuters but is currently unconfirmed.

A tennis player in Australia for the AO has been confirmed as infected with the virus.  She was on one of the flights into Australia where the virus had been detected so that she was already in quarantine however she has now been transferred to one of the "health hotels".

A journalist has broken the embargo on naming the Australia Day gong recipients prior to Australia Day by announcing that Margaret Court is to receive a Companion in the General Division of the Order of Australia. One can imagine the twitterverse and our intellectual elites going hysterical over this.  Pity one can't have an opinion outside of the politically correct leftist view of the world.

Although the cat got the Premier's tongue over the state government funding of the AO he had plenty say about Margaret Court's award, and as you may have guessed he wasn't particularly complimentary.

Victoria has reported one new infection in the last 24 hours and I am assuming this is the tennis player referred to above.  Victoria has now experienced 16 days of no local infections.  NSW reported one new infections and Qld three, all ROTs.  A total of 5 new infections reported Australia wide in the last 24 hours.

Victoria received the results of 16,500 tests in the last 24 hours, NSW 17,400 and Qld 7,054.

Currently Victoria has 31 active cases 30 of whom are ROTs, NSW has 78 active cases plus 70 ROTs and Qld has 23 active cases all of whom are ROTs.  Australia wide there are 156 active cases of which 77 are ROTs, excluding 77 ROTs in NSW.

Worldwide there were 753,000 new infections reported in the last 24 hours bring the total number of infections worldwide for the pandemic to 98 million.  At this rate we should break the 100 million infections in the next 3 days.  Worldwide there were 16,200 deaths reported in the last 24 hours bringing the total deaths for the pandemic to 2.1 million.

Although the daily infection rates appear to be gradually declining in both the US and the UK the daily death figures are amongst the highest reported.  In the last 24 hours the UK reported 1,826 deaths and the US 4,229.  Hopefully as the declining infection rates start to take affect the death rates will decline as well.

Covid Safe Summer Reminders;

Remember; stay safe and sober for the new year, I know I will be; no hugging and kissing strangers on new years eve!; don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things; as the captain of the Graf Spee said "you have to be bigger than anything faster and faster than anything bigger"; to wear your mask indoors (again); if you have a tickle in your throat, get tested (again); to add Brissie to your list of places to avoid; at a 1st birthday party be first in line for the fairy bread; try not to spend too much at Bunnings; bowls is the only game where the players are allowed to have a bias; if you see a big hole, take a photo; vote 1 Trump in four years time; brighten up your day by patting a puppy.

Comments

  1. Everyone is allowed an opinion. Of course, there are always reactions to public opinions... Surely that's the point, to elicit a response? I guess M.Court didn't realise that others were entitled to the same free speech to speak out in response to her, maybe she though only she was allowed to have a go a people? Who knows.... will be interesting to see how that plays out. That's the darn thing about free speech, everyone is entitled to it.

    1. And of course Andrew, free speech is valued, cherished and encouraged in this blog. Of course didn't somebody once say "I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it".
