Blog Day 313 - Wednesday 03 February 2021

Apologies for no blog yesterday but I went to Mornington for a nice lunch at Kirks Hotel.  I well remember Kirks from the days when I used to spend a fair bit of time at Mornington and a fair bit of that time is a bit hazy in the old memory banks.

Anyway Kirks has had a bit of a refit since those days and is nice place overlooking the bay for lunch, or dinner for that fact, with some good company.

I have noticed in a number of venues that staff are going out of their way to be polite and friendly and I wonder if this is as a result of not having a job for many months and they now appreciate a bit more the work when they have it.  Or did we, the customer, just take them for granted as well?

Just back from my walk, beautiful Melbourne summer day, working up to a maximum of 25 degrees, blue skies and a gentle zephyr of a breeze.  Gets a bit nastier tomorrow maximum of 30 and humid, and then back down to low 20's.

Victoria has recorded 28 days with zero local virus infections, Qld 23 days and NSW 17.  In the last 24 hours Victoria recorded zero new infections, including ROTs, NSW recorded 2 new infections , both ROTs, and WA recorded zero new infections.  It looks as though WA may have dodged a bullet.

Victoria received the results of 16,100 tests in the last 24 hours for a zero result, NSW received the results of 11,800 tests and Qld 6,900.  WA reported 10,000 tests but this was for 2/2, given the time differences when I gather information for the blog the latest WA figures aren't available.

Currently Victoria has 21 active cases, all ROTs; NSW 14 active cases plus 38 ROTs; Qld 7 active cases, all ROTs and WA 9 active cases, 8 of which are ROTs.  Australia wide there are 57 active cases, 42 of which are ROTs plus 38 ROTs in NSW.

Given there has been no deaths Australia wide for many weeks and little movement in hospital numbers I will only report on them if there is significant change in those categories.

Worldwide there were 486,000 new infections reported in the last 24 hours and 15,600 deaths.  The worldwide daily infection rates appear to be declining but there is very little movement in the daily death figures but given the wide fluctuations in the daily figures it is hard to determine a pattern with any degree of accuracy.

The US reported 131,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 1,881 deaths, both of these figures seem to indicate a slight downward trend in both new infections and deaths.

The UK reported 19,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 400 deaths, again these figures seem to be part of a downward trend.  Lets see what the rest of the week hold for both the US & UK.

    1. That must be my superpower. I was going to have another day off today (04/02) but now I don't dare.
