Did you hear about the two people who stole a calendar? They both got six months.

 For the first time since 22/11/2020 Victoria has reported the hospitalisation of a patient due to the corona virus.  This patient who is a ROT is also in ICU, the first person in ICU in Victoria since 10/10/2020.  There are currently 11 people in hospital Australia wide due to the virus, 1 in Vic (in ICU), 1 in NSW, 5 in Qld and 4 in NT.  When you look at the hospitalisations around the world this is a marvellous position to be in.

The worker at the Holiday Inn Tullamarine that was reported as infected yesterday has had her infection confirmed as the more contagious UK variant.  The authorities still don't know how she acquired the infection as apparently she wore a mask, a face shield and worked behind a perspex screen.  Furthermore the Holiday Inn that she worked at is a "cold hotel" and not used for accommodating active virus cases.  

So far there has been no spread of community or local infections as a result of either of the recently acquired hotel infections.  Have we been lucky or is the system actually working or a bit of both.

In the last 24 hours NSW was the only state to report any new infections and they reported two, both ROTs.

In the last 24 hours Victoria received the results of 12,800 tests, NSW 7,300 and Qld 6,400.

Currently Australia wide there are 46 active cases including 34 ROTs plus 33 ROTs in NSW.  Victoria has 15 active cases including 13 ROTs, NSW 9 active cases plus 33 ROTs and Qld 5 active cases all ROTs.

Worldwide there were 306,000 new infections reported in the last 24 hours for a total of close to 107 million infections for the pandemic.  There were 8,400 deaths reported in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of deaths for the pandemic to 2,335,000.  Although the Tuesday figures are traditionally low they seem to be heading in the right direction.

The US and UK have recorded lower infections and deaths in the last 24 hours which seem to be continuing a trend in lower infections and hopefully the start of a trend in lower deaths.  In the last 24 hours the US reported 87,000 new infections and 1,300 deaths and the UK the reported 16,000 new infections and 376 deaths.

The US new infection figure is their lowest in at least 3 months and the death figure is the lowest in two months.  The UK new infection figure is their lowest since the middle of December last year and the death figure is the lowest since late December last year.

In the press yesterday Israel was claiming that it's vaccination program was starting the show positive results.  To date Israel has vaccinated 65% of its population, UAE has vaccinated 44%, Seychelles 40% and then a big gap to the UK at 19% and then the US next at 12%.  It would appear that the combination of a small country geographically with a small population assists in achieving a high rate of vaccination, although the UK & USA are doing better than most.
