Blog Day 331 - Monday 22 February 2021

Hold on to your hats, I will be tempting the fates and putting the entire country in jeopardy as I will not be presenting a blog tomorrow and as we know this can incur the 'curse of the blog'.

I will be spending most of tomorrow at the the Shrine, my first tour of duty there for nearly 12 months.  I have done my reinduction training and reviewed and acknowledged the various policies and procedures that the volunteers need to be familiar with and I am ready to go.

I was supposed to do two school tours last Tuesday but that got blown out of the water by our most recent mini lockdown.  So tomorrow I have two school tours, a one hour TGW tour with a group of year nines (now there is something to look forward to) and a one hour general Shrine tour with a group of grade 5/6s, (much more fun).  I am going to go in early and shadow one of the Shrine ed staff on one of their tours to bring myself up to speed on the mechanics of running tours under covid virus requirements.

I have just had my regular Thursday afternoon shift for the Shrine confirmed.  Due to the current restrictions on the number of staff that can be in a workplace we are limited to only half the volunteers being able to attend for each shift.  We usually have six volunteers at the Shrine on Thursday afternoons so at the moment we can only have three, so we will probably be working week about to give everybody a bit of a go, sounds reasonable to me.

Friday afternoon we are having a Shrine volunteer welcome back afternoon tea. This will be held outdoors so more people can attend and replaces our usual volunteer update and lunch.

The president of Tennis Australia got booed last night at the presentation of the prizes for the winner of the men's tournament.  Her crime, she happened to mention the Victorian state government and their support for the AO and welcome the availability of the vaccine.  Maybe she should have kept to just presenting the prizes and talking about tennis.

Victoria has reported zero new infections in the last 24 hours, both local infections and ROTs.  Are we actually taking any ROTs at the moment?  NSW had one case and Qld two, ROTs in both cases.

Victoria received the results of 8,300 test in the last 24 hours, NSW 12,100 and Qld 3,600.  These numbers are down significantly on previous days testing, possibly due to the weekend.

Currently there are 41 active cases Australia wide, 22 of which are ROTs plus 28 ROTs in NSW.  Victoria has 25 active cases including 6 ROTs.

Now for our new section on vaccinations.  In the last 24 hours there were 37 vaccination injections given Australia wide, including 3 in Victoria, 23 in NSW, 6 in QLD, 4 in SA and 1 in ACT.  This figure does not include the injections taking place today as part of the rollout of the inoculation program.

Worldwide the figures continue to show a downward trend with 308,000 new infections reported in the last 24 hours and 6,300 deaths in the same period.

The US figures have settled down a bit after yesterday's unexplained blowout.  The US reported 71,000 new infections for the last 24 hours, down from 108,000 the day before.  The US reported 446 deaths in the last 24 hours and this continues a downward trend, but as John one of my correspondents said about the number of deaths "Putting it simply, it’s a bloody big number!" and he is right.

The UK reported 10,000 new infections down from 12,000 the previous day and 446 deaths.  The trends in both new infections and deaths are both continuing strongly downward.

Corona Virus Daily Stats – February 2021 – Covid Normal (as much as possible)
*Please note that the “Aus Active & Aus ROTs columns do not include the NSW ROTs.  (ROTs = Returned Overseas Travellers

Covid Normal Reminders;

Remember: to think carefully before mucking around with spreadsheets and tables in Blogger; to keep up your Covid era exercise regime; if you put your mask on when you enter a shop you can take it of again when you leave ( I seem to get home and realise I still have my mask on); to laugh at my jokes; it is a beautiful day out there, get out and enjoy it; keep your corporate governance up to date; bring yourself up to date with the stage 4 lockdown rules; to buy your valentine day flowers before lockdown; those that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones; even in lockdown look both ways before you cross the road; to enjoy our refound freedoms, while they last; if you are Irish be careful attending your traditional rice feeding ceremony; don't go looking for hidden things, you don't know what you might find.
