Blog Day 333 - Wednesday 24 February 2021

Well, I missed a blog yesterday and the world hasn't collapsed, except maybe for the poor buggers in Qld who were injected with 4 times the proper dose of the virus vaccine.  Apparently the doctor responsible for this has been placed on other duties.

Anyway it looks like we have beaten the 'curse of the blog' which is good because as life gets back to semi normal the demands on my time will be come greater and I will have less opportunity to attend to the blog every day.  I know that you, my gentle readers, will be disappointed with this but I will try and do the blog as many days as possible and to keep it informative, educational, amusing and as always balanced.

Back at the Shrine yesterday, with effectively 3 one hour tours, including lots of stairs which my knees reminded me of last night.  One of the groups I had was about 25 year 9 students who are studying TGW this year so the tour had a strong TGW focus which obviously suits me.  The second group I had was about 20 grade 5 kids from Trafalgar who were visiting the Shrine as part of their three day urban camp.  Their tour was a general tour which takes in the broader aspects and history of the Shrine.

As it was a nice day I spent a lot of time outdoors with both groups and as we were outdoors we didn't have to wear masks, which made things a lot easier.  I am back at the Shrine tomorrow so probably no blog and possibly no blog in Friday either.

I have been to Southland this morning, good to see most people wearing masks although some sneakily have them tucked under their nose.  It is good to see that although there are still some empty shops new businesses are springing up and taking up some of the vacant premises.  From casual observation I don't think that Southland, at least, was hit as hard as it could have been.  The same goes for the local strip shopping centres around me.

The vaccinations appear to be rolling out satisfactorily, apart from the blunder referred to above, and the daily numbers are building up.  Apparently another shipment of the vaccine was flown in last night.

Victoria has recorded another zero day of both local and ROT infections, I think that this is day 5 or 6.  The premier has told us that there should be another relaxation of the rules come this Friday.

There were only 2 new cases recorded Australia wide in the last 24 hours, one in NSW and one in Qld, both overseas travellers.

Victoria received the results of 20,000 tests in the last 24 hours, NSW nearly 18,000 and Qld nearly 8,500.

There are 36 active cases Australia wide with 17 of those ROTs plus 27 ROTs in NSW.  Victoria has 20 active cases, including one ROT.

 Australia wide there has been a total of 6,280 vaccinations, including 1,255 in Victoria, 3,200 in NSW and 527 in Qld.

Worldwide the daily infection rates are continuing a downward trend, notwithstanding daily fluctuations.  Likewise the daily death rates are continuing a regular downward trend but with daily ups and downs.

The US new 24 hour new infection rate, continues to decline but still has been over 50,000 per day for the last two days.  The US death rate continues to decline with 1,347 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

The UK is also continuing a downward trend with 10,700 new infections reported in the last 24 hours, considering it was 18,000 per day three weeks ago this is a good result.  In the last 24 hours the UK reported 178 deaths this figure is also showing a strong decline, from over a thousand per day over 3 weeks ago.

Covid Normal Reminders;

Remember: to think carefully before mucking around with spreadsheets and tables in Blogger; to keep up your Covid era exercise regime; if you put your mask on when you enter a shop you can take it of again when you leave ( I seem to get home and realise I still have my mask on); to laugh at my jokes; it is a beautiful day out there, get out and enjoy it; keep your corporate governance up to date; bring yourself up to date with the stage 4 lockdown rules; to buy your valentine day flowers before lockdown; those that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones; even in lockdown look both ways before you cross the road; to enjoy our refound freedoms, while they last; if you are Irish be careful attending your traditional rice feeding ceremony; don't go looking for hidden things, you don't know what you might find.
