Victoria will resume taking ROTs on 8th of April and the number will be capped at 800 per week building up to 1,100 over time.   Anybody else nervous?  I know that I am.

I have been reviewing my blog of a year ago.  This time last year I had discovered a virus vaccine using brake fluid and other secret ingredients that had to be administered by way of a large suppository.  I am still amazed that none of the large pharmaceutical companies have to this date returned my phone calls.

I had also discovered that if I stacked my supplies of toilet paper beside the toilet it made a handy little side table for my drink, magazines and phone.  My word weren't we having fun back in those days.

There has been a further case of community transmission in Qld with a close contact of the doctor who tested positive a couple of weeks ago testing positive yesterday.  Contact tracing and testing in Qld has failed to locate any further cases.  It is of concern that the young man who tested positive had been out and about in the community whilst infectious.  The virus is the UK variant which is one of the ultra high contagious variety.  Lets hope that this particular outbreak doesn't go any further.

The Brisbane footy team was playing the Geelong footy team at footy here in Victoria last night and when news of the Qld infection came out anybody in the audience from Brisbane and Moreton Bay were told by public announcement that they would have to leave the ground.  The Brisbane footy players who were actually playing at the time didn't have to go home as they received an exemption from the Victorian government.  Farcical anybody?

Victoria has now gone 29 days without a local infection.  Technically 28 days without a local infection means elimination of the virus within the state, but I wouldn't be hanging my hat on that one just yet.

Victoria is recording all the zeros, but we are not currently taking any ROTs so that makes controlling things within the state a bit easier.

In the last 24 hours Australia wide we recorded 12 new infections with 11 of those ROTs and the one local infection referred to above in Qld.

Vaccinations are ramping up with a total of 81,000 in Victoria,89,000 in NSW, 58,000 in Qld, 76,000 by the Federal govt and 76,000 by GPs.  I am not sure why the GPs are being counted separately and not included in the relevant state figures.  All up Australia wide there has been 473,000 vaccinations given out of a population of 26 million or so.  Going to take a while to build up herd immunity.

Currently there are 153 active cases nationally and 150 or these are ROTs.  NSW has 57 of these with 55 being ROTs, Qld 71 with 70 ROTs and Victoria zero of each.

In the last 24 hours Victoria received the results of 10,000 test, NSW 8,000 and Qld nearly 7,000.  I would envisage the Qld testing numbers to increase over the next few day.

There has been some irregularities with the worldwide figures over the last few days, but it looks like they are on the increase again.  Worldwide there were 714,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 11,708 deaths in the same period.  These are the highest daily figures for some weeks.

The decline in the US and UK figures appears to have stalled a bit, the US reported 67,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 1,600 deaths.  The UK reported 5,626 new infections in the 24 hour period and 98 deaths.  Will keep an eye on these over the next few days and see if there is any pattern developing.

Brazil reported 100,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 2,777 deaths and this continues a pattern of rapidly increasing infections.

France reported 110,000 new infections in the last 24 hours but the French figures are always inconsistent, such as 110,000 one day, 1,200 the day before, 14,000 the day before that and 81,000 the day before that and so on.  France reported 452 deaths in the last 24 hours but their death figures are inconsistent also.

After managing the epidemic so well for so long it would appear that things are getting a bit out of control in India with 59,000 new infections in the last 24 hours.  Two weeks ago India was reporting infections in the 20,000 per day.  The death rate in India is still reasonably low, given the country's huge population but this is also creeping up into the low to mid 200s per day and if the infection rate continues to climb the death rate will follow.
