Blog Day 385 - Saturday 17 April 2021

Another gun massacre in the US, the second in as many days, and Sleepy Joe says how naughty these people are and these massacres must be stopped, but hasn't actually done anything.  I got the impression when SJ was on the campaign trail that he was going to fix all of the country's problems in the first 100 days of his presidency.  

Given my age and rude good health I am some distance down the line for a virus vaccination, however when my turn does come up I will willingly sacrifice my dose of the vaccine to an 18 year old skateboarder so that he or she can attend the Tokyo Olympics.  (I think that is meant to be sarcasm on my part).

And now for some really bad news, when I was crossing the busy East Boundary Road on the return from my walk I heard a bit of a rattle like I had kicked something. Reaching the median strip and looking behind me I saw my bluetooth earbuds sitting in the middle of the road.  I had taken them out of my ears in the supermarket and they were draped on the cord around my neck, or they were up until then.  

They looked OK until a car ran over them!  I darted out into the traffic and retrieved them but unfortunately one of the buds is damaged beyond repair.  Looks like a trip to HN for me.

And now for the really, really bad news.  A 48 year old female from NSW has died from an event described as 'likely to be linked to the virus vaccination' after suffering from blood clots after receiving the AstraZenaca vaccine.  This is the third blood clotting case linked to AZ vaccine in Australia, that is now a one in  290,000 frequency of blood clotting here.

And now for the good news, Victoria has reached 50 days without a locally transmitted virus infection.  We have 2 more ROTs in hotel quarantine bringing the total number of infections in Victoria, all ROTs to 8.  

NSW has 7 new active cases, that are ROTs in hotel quarantine but there is now some thought that these cases may have caught the bug whilst in quarantine.  Apparently the genomic signature of the virus is the same as another family on the same floor but both groups originated in different countries and arrived at the different times, indicating that the virus was transmitted at the hotel.

NSW has 61 active cases, all ROTs and no locally transmitted cases except as described above.  Qld has 28 active cases of which 27 are ROTs.  Once again Qld is to be commended as to how they managed and controlled their community outbreaks.

Australia wide there are 128 active cases of which 127 are ROTs.

The international figures are not providing any good news with 599,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 12,009 deaths.  Early march of this year we were reporting daily infections in the 300,000 to 400,000 range, now anything under 600,000 is good news.

As well as gun control SJ appears to have gone to sleep on controlling the virus in the US with 74,000 new infections reported in the last 24 hours.  I agree that this figure is a lot less than the 200,000 daily infections being reported in January of this year but it is a lot more than the 30 to 50,000 being reported in March.  There were 881 deaths reported in the US in the last 24 hours.

The UK figures remaining steady but without any significant decreases, they reported 2,800 new infections in the last 24 hours and 31 deaths.

Brazil and Turkey are still in all sorts of strife with 73,000 and 61,000 new infections respectively in the last 24 hours.  Brazil reported 3,560 deaths and Turkey 296 deaths in the last 24 hours.
