Blog Day 403 - Wednesday 5 May 2021

I realise now that I made a poor career choice when I went into banking and accounting.  I should have got an arts degree from LaTrobe uni, which would have qualified me for a job with Maccas or failing that a job with the Victorian public service.

As I have said before the Victorian hotel quarantine is a gift that keeps on giving.  The Australian newspaper has published a list of substantial breaches of hotel quarantine protocols that are continuing in Victoria to this day.  A chap by the name of Matiu Bush who was the General Manager Covid 19 Quarantine Victoria Infection Prevention and Control Program, who prefers the use of of the personal pronoun "they", seemed to think that the infection protocols didn't apply to them and was reported breaching these protocols at least twice.  They has been stood down from their position today, but only after the breaches were made public.

Other breaches included a staffer 'vaping' indoors, air-conditioning being turned off of a night time to save money and unvaccinated contractors and tradies being allowed into quarantine hotels in contravention of the quarantine protocols.

Little wonder nobody has any confidence in the quarantine process in this state.

As a further continuance of the farce that was the enquiry into the earlier hotel quarantine fiasco it has been revealed that the state government spent $12 million on legal representation at the enquiry.  That is twice the budget of the actual enquiry itself which was $6 million.  And we still don't know who stuffed it up.  Bring on the royal commission I say.

Meanwhile the farce continues.  I rang the covid hotline this morning to make a booking for my virus vaccination.  One of the vaccination centres is at Moorabbin hospital which despite it's name is around the corner from me in Centre Rd Bentleigh East, walking distance from my place.  However the nice chap on the phone was unable to make a booking for me as the system was undergoing a "system rebuild" and would not be available until tomorrow.  The same applies for bookings at the Kingston Centre and Monash Medical Centre, all reasonably local to me.  Remember this booking process has only been in place two days and it already needs a rebuild??  Going well I reckon.

Got a couple of things on tonight that are really a reminder of the good ol days of lockdown.  I have a zoom presentation to attend tonight by Military History and Heritage Victoria called 'Niche Wars - Australia in Afghanistan and Iraq, 2001 - 2014.  Been a while since I have attended a zoom meeting.

And later this evening there is a reunion trivia night also on zoom, reliving the heady days of the trivia nights held whilst we were in lockdown.

And now for the bad news, I have a resurgence of my difficulties after eating a piece of dodgy chicken on Sunday, hence not currently moving far from home.

And to finish off a few more pics from my recent Hunter Valley adventure.

Late afternoon in the vineyard and olive grove with kangaroo in the background.

More travelling companions also with new best friend.
