Blog Day 425 - Friday 28 May 2021 - Day One Lockdown Version 4
Just when we thought that we had beaten the curse of the blog. I take a few days away from the blog and the state goes to hell in a handbasket again.
Anyway, I enjoyed my few days camping on the banks of Lake Eildon with some mates. I must admit at times it was a bit cold and more than a bit wet and that some of said mates whinged a bit but as I explained to them it was character building.
On the Wednesday night when the night sky was a bit clearer and not raining as much we were able to watch most of the lunar eclipse which was a real experience watching it out in the bush sitting around the camp fire with warming drink in hand.
There were a few kangaroos around and I had a small deer run across in front of the car on the drive out. Due to the rain and mud the drive out was a bit hairy, but skilful driving and the Subaru's sure footedness saw us safely through. Although there is probably more mud on the car than on the road.
And what did I come home to, a 7 day lockdown. Apart from no curfew this lockdown is as stringent as any we have experienced before and believe you me we have experienced a few.
Back to five kilometre travel restrictions, hospitality closures, wearing face masks, limits on visitors to the home and limits on numbers at public gatherings etc. I am not complaining, if it has to be done it has to be done and we have to grin and bear it, but won't it be great when this situation isn't always looming on the horizon.
I got across the road at East Boundary Rd on my walk this morning and saw a chap walking towards me wearing a mask, bugger, I realised that I wasn't wearing a mask. So, I had to turn around, go home, put a mask on and start over again.
To today's figures. Victoria reported 4 new cases of local infections in the last 24 hours, bring the total active local infections to 39. Thirty of these cases have been identified as directly related to the Whittlesea outbreak with the balance being further investigated. Apparently a some infected folk visited some night clubs and discos last weekend which is causing the health authorities some angst.
Currently there are 15,000 Victorians who have identified as close contacts of the existing infected who are now in isolation. There is still a missing link between the Wollert case, who is the guy who caught the virus in Adelaide and the current outbreak in Victoria although although genomic testing has identified the virus currently in Victoria as that caught by the fellow in SA. The health authorities do not know how the virus made the break from the SA guy to the general community here in Victoria.
There are something like 150 identified tier 1 and 2 exposure sites which require testing and isolation if attended during certain periods.
In the last 24 Victoria received the results of 47,462 tests, which is a record for one day in this state.
Apparently there was a record number of vaccine doses administered in Victoria yesterday but it is difficult to find accurate figures for this. I did see a figure of 17,000 doses but I think that this is only the doses administered by the state and does not include Federal govt figures and doses applied by GP clinics. Lets just hope this current situation inspires more people to get vaccinated.
Internationally nothing much has changed in my couple of days absence. India's daily infections and deaths are declining, Brazil's daily infections and deaths continue to climb, US figures are holding steady but not declining and world wide figures of daily new infections and deaths continue to decline.
A couple of tables are attached below.

Hope you still had your emergency lockdown supplies.
ReplyDeleteFortunately I have resisted the temptation to break into my supplies of Spam, Croatian Hungarian goulash, Fray Bentos steak and kidney pie and best of all my can of pickled Aussie mutton.
