Blog Day 428 - Monday 31 May 2021 - Day Four Lockdown Version Four

Cold again this morning, 2.7 degrees here at 8.00am in the morning but once again turning into a coolish but nice day.

Today is the first day where the local streets and shopping strip have the appearance of the city in lockdown.  Very few people around and little traffic although a few of the thirty somethings wandering around without face masks.

The big concern at the moment is what happens on Thursday, the general feeling is that if the numbers continues at the current level the lockdown will be extended in some form or another.

Depending on the source today's figures for Victoria are a bit contradictory.  The declared figure for the last 24 hours was 5 new local infections however since the cut off time a further 6 local infections have been discovered bringing the total for the last 24 hours plus part of today to 11 new infections.

Of concern is that some of these cases relate to aged care facilities.  Four aged care facilities have been placed in lockdown.  Apparently in one of the aged care facilities only 56 of the 73 inmates consented to receiving the vaccination - go figure.

This is not looking good.

There are currently 270 tier 1, 2 & 3 exposure sites, and 2,400 primary close contacts of infected people being monitored.

In the last 24 hours nearly 44,000 test results were received in Victoria and 16,800 vaccine doses were administered.

I haven't included a table for Victoria today as the figures have changed since the information for the table was updated and consequently my table is a little out of date and more confusing than usual.  Hopefully tomorrow's table will even things out.

I have posted the table for the worldwide figures but given the known inaccuracy of the worldwide figures over the weekend I wouldn't be placing too much reliance on these figures either.
